SO the air comes in goes through the filter and up through the fat tube. On the side of the tub there is a container attached. My buddy took his off and pluged up the hole, said it made his truck sound better. Which it did. But my little container has a small tube off of that which runs somwhere into the engine. So what is this thing? What does it do? And is it safe to take off? Or do I need to go yell at my pall and tell him to put it back on?

I am also interested in getting a new air intake, K&N maybe. Any suggestions?

The little tube is a vacuum hose that runs into the Fuel pressure regulator. I have heard of a guys who just stuck it on the nipple at the forward part of the intake plenum. Not sure if this is a good thing or not but im sure you will get a better response than this.

K&N from the general consensus is a waste of money...

I think he is just talking about the one coming off of the intake silencer. On tacomas, the vacuum line to the evap should be coming from the airbox...

Read this: http://www.yotatech.com/~corey/tech/dr_z_intake/dr_z.htm
It will answer all your questions. Go partway down, and it will talk about the vacuum hose coming off the intake tube. It's good info. I've done it, and the intake is a lot louder.

i removed the lower silencer. the j-shapped one. it doesnt do anything for performace and makes the truck sound decent. i think its worth the couple of dollars and the 5 minutes to install. :2cents:
