Aren't those coils gonna be a tad light for the Taco? Why not just do coilovers and get er done.

That don't make no sense to me, what's the diff? It seems to me like ya gonna wind up wasting some time, effort and money by doing shocks and coils now then changing over later. It is escaping logic for me and making my poor pea brain hurt.

i already have the coils and shocks off another project so it will have to do for now, i guess....

That does make a difference but I'm still fretting over the spring rate.

Don't know but off hand I would say that the jeep is much lighter. If you have some coils from both lying around you could make an easy test to see if the jeep coils will be any good for the Taco. Get the coil standing up straight and secure it in that position, put weight on the top until you get the coil compressed an inch. The amount of weight it takes to compress the coil one inch is a good approximation of the spring rate.

well now everything has changed in my plans.... front is now going 3-link with 16" travel sawy-a-way coil-overs, rear is 4-link with triple bellow air bags... oh yeah and the running gear is now changed.... unimog 404 axles are heading my way...

Did you get that set Unimog Portals with Ford 9" centers that was back east somewhere. He wanted 10 grand for both axles including tires and rims. I figured shipping alone would run about 2K as it would take four pallets to get all that stuff from one coast to the other. One for each axle and two for all four wheels. Since I want to do rear steer and one of his axles was a straight rear, I passed. I'm going to go with the Volvo portal outers and 9" centers in the FJ. Volvo portals are supposed to be stronger, lighter and the gear ratio is 2:1 instead of the Unimog 2.7 or something to 1. The mog portals also have an upper speed limit or about 50MPH and the Volvos don't.

found a set of true mog axles in canada, front steering and rear straight... only paid $1000 for the pair... friend went to go pick them up for a couple hundred bucks...

Dick are you getting these from portaltech? Sound like the same he is making 9" centers with the volvo outers. Should make for one badass 40 series. at least you can find endless parts for the 9''. Skunkworks in PA is supposed to have portals available soon on the east coast but $$$$. one day portals will become reality instead of fantasy

id say those tj coils are gonna be a tad light for your truck, im running v8 xj fronts in the rear of mine and they are almost too soft. If you look at the project quasimoto thread on pirate there is a comparison of the springrates and lengths of a bunch of used coils from differnt jeeps

I have tj lift (4.5 RE's) coils in my junk, stockers are soft for my taste especially sice I don't have sway bars.
The nice thing is springs are cheap and I can buy them by the set if I wanna raise/lower or replace.
