I am going to buy a 1966 FJ40 in the near future. I was hoping to get some info on the stock transmission, t-case, and axles. I am looking for any way to identify the drive train? And where is best place to get parts for a FJ40 in SoCal?
66 is a good year for the body/frame but the axles are the weaker ball and claw type. "F" series engine is not a powerhouse but solid and very reliable - good low rpm torque. 3 speed trans with column shift and early t-case are something to consider swaping also. All this can easily be fixed if you get it for the right price and the tub and frame are solid.
