I've seen similar threads on numerous other boards I've been on, couldn't find one on here. Just bought a house and since I'm starting from scratch again, thought I might be able to pick up some ideas to implement.

My new 3-car garage - work in progress...
If every thing goes well during the install, it should turn out like this below...


After taking a swig of beer...


Then laying our the final tiles...


And hammering away, the tiles are laid.


Next on the list is the cabinets and work table, which have been ordered...
Since I have ordered my cabinets for my garage, now I need to look into ORGANIZING MY TOOLS!

Some samples below...
I was at Lowes this past weekend and saw this interesting piece.
It's from Kobalt @ $17

Magnetic and could hold anything, I would only need to add labels.

Right now I am leaning towards Ernst organizers (easier to combine sets of sockets @ $6, not including a base that would combine sets).


or the SocketLock-it versions (sockets will not fall off if on it's side @ $18-$20 - but not able to join together like Ernst).


But the Sears' socket bar ($20) is temping too - but I would have to add labels and it too does not join together like Ernst.


My requirements is to be able to read what is loaded there and able to lay the socket set on it's side. I have already ordered a Lista Mobile tool cabinet - MMP0600-0702 (44 3/8 wide).

Similar to the smaller sister shown above.

The mobile cabinet will house my metric gear (because my two cars and truck is all Metric). While my SAE stuff will be housed in a different stand-alone combo-tool DW sized cabinet from Lista.

Ok im in the process of getting a new house with a huge garage! Could you give me some info on those tiles ( how sturdy, can you drive on them, cost, where you gotem...) thanks

Nice wainscoting in your parents garage.
Now all they need is carpet.

On a serious note, I have a bunch of ceiling mounted shelving in my garage for camping gear, kayak, old playboys, etc. They are not too expensive and keep your floor space open.

OK, to bring up an old thread..

I'm using my tax return ($9k) to build a garage to start my FToy, and I was kinda wondering what the OP was... How are your garages laid out? Mines prolly going to be a 24' x 24' steel building (already quoted it at around $6k.). It will have 2 roll up doors and a walk in door. PICS PLEASE!!! Thanks.

The floors are bullet proof. No hot tire pull up and runs around $5 s/f. That means you don't have to do anything except pull all of your sheet out. No cutting or cleaning, just empty it and they do the rest. I was curious how much those tiles cost, and how much of a pain-in-the-ass it might be to cut it to size.-Not to diss- it looks good.

Honestly, I wouldn't put anything on the floor that might either get damaged, or catch on fire. My garage floor is a tool just like all the rest. It is subject to high heat, heavy loads, and the occasional vehicle dropping off jack stands trick. Every wonder what 1000 degree metal does to a painted surface?

No permanent structures ....I can take my stuff wherever I go ...easily

It actually is designed to be a tool. It can handle forklifts, and the high heat of Ferrari or Porsche tires in the AZ summer. Not sure on the 1k degree metal, but I can say that it handles a wood shop great. It is pretty amazing for what we have put our showroom through.

Laid out...it depends on what you plan to do with your garage and what tools you are planning to install. The best thing is to get some grid paper and start sketching.
In my garage, I have three bays, the furthest bay is my "work shop & storage" area.
The front two is for the cars and truck.


I still have boxes from the move, so the only things in there are my tools, storage cabinets & work bench.




I been collecting some stuff to hang on the walls (decorative) and still have to get items to install. The biggest is lighting...both artificial and natural. That will happen later this year or early next.

I would suggest to check out Garage Journal to see examples of other garage layouts and opinions on the tools, flooring, cabinets, orginazation...have fun!

I really like that racedeck floor almost to the point that I want to hear something negavite so I can justify not buying it. How is it holding up?

It would also be nice to get my hands on some Shiner Helles.

It is doing fine...remember it is plastic...so no welding or hot metal cutting without a cover (tarp or cardboard).
I do like the thought of being able to replace pieces, if you did burn a piece.
