Yes, I'm going to close this thread since this is turning into more name calling then a useful discussion. But, not before I add my
.First I'd like to commend Sparky for taking the high road and not wanting to associate with the people who decided to drink. People have some belief that once you hit the dirt, drinking and driving is no longer illegal. If you are behind the wheel of your vehicle, regardless of the road being a highway/trail/parking lot, you can be arrested for drinking and driving. If anything, you need better reflexes and concentration when off-road then on the highway. So that is the last place to be drinking. TTORA has a strict no alcohol policy because we have seen first hand what even a few beers does and it has affected several of our members in the past. I would comment that whatever club that was hosting that trail run is very irresponsible for allowing people to drink during the run. However TTORA was not involved in the run, so it is totally on that group to enforce whatever rules they may have during their events. I don't think it was Sparky's intention to stereotype the entire club with his post, it just came out that way. However, regardless of what club any of the drivers belonged to, I find it disappointing that if somebody would be shunned because they had an issue with somebody drinking. We all want to share the same trails and keep them open in the future. Tree hugger groups eat this stuff up and we really don't need to give them anymore ammo. Drinking and irresponsible use will lead to closures. Joking about driving around the blocked trails on Cleghorn may seem funny, but some may think the comments were serious and actually do it. So once again, its best to avoid suggesting this kind of behavior. And before anybody calls TTORA members assholes about this thread, just keep in mind who was being responsible wheelers and who was acting irresponsibly and wheeling in an unsafe manner.
