2003-04 Tacoma Throttle Body Source

Does anyone have a source, outside of the dealer, for new throttle bodies?

Many of you have probably seen the threads about the throttle by wire throttle bodies found on 2003 and 2004 tacomas.

It seems that no one has found a definite solution to the problem. I am not sure if it is just too techy for this board or what. But does anyone have a source outside of the dealer for replacement throttle body's? I have heard reports of $1100-$1300, just for the part from the stealership!

There has to be another source!

www.LCengineering.com sells big bore throttle bodies for about 350 or so I think. Pretty good guys imo....other option is always junk yards.

Sorry I guess I should have specified 6cyl tacoma's, but if you had read either of the threads I referenced before posting you would already know that all the people having this problem have a 6cyl.

I never noticed that they didn't have one for the 5vz. However you could call them up and ask about this.

The problem with the links that you have posted is that these throttle bodies are not 2003-04, 6 cylinder throttle bodies. The 2003-04 throttle bodies are unique in that they have a Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor, that is not found on any other years of the 6 cyl motor like the ones you posted... Good looking out but you should read the two threads I posted that go into detail about this problem...

Yeah I missed the part about the year of tacomas affected lol. Sorry. As you can tell I don't have a 5vz. I couldn't find squat for the years mentioned except for a guy selling one in apr. here on ttora. He wanted 700 and there were no replies on it.

ANYONE? Well it seems that no one has the hook up. I am not looking forward to this $800- $1000 fix, but I am tired of limping along relying on cruise control since my APPS is going bad..

TPS - throttle position sensor.

Can't you just replace it, and not the whole assembly?

Please read the threads that were linked at the top before posting. In short, the 03-04 throttle bodys are drive by wire and the Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor (APPS) was built into the throttle body by toyota. This sensor reads how far you have pushed the accelerator pedal and tells a electric motor to open the butterfly valve on the throttle body. The TPS sensor is not a replaceable part in this system either.

I never found a cheap source for a new throttle body and after limping around using primarily cruise control I finally ponied up and purchased a used throttle body with 38,000 miles on it for $275. I installed the used TB last night and did not have any problems driving to work this morning. I will keep you all updated.
