Default New Tires

Hey all,

I'm buying new tires when I return to Colorado. I could use some imput regarding size. I was thinking about the size: 255/80/17, which comes out to be a 33.3 inch tire. They'd be going on a stock wheel with a 3 inch lift (ome). I found the BFG KM2's in this size and I'm strongly considering them.

I was always under the impression that the largest problem associated with putting a "bigger" tire on a stock wheel creates an issue because of the width (such as with a 285). However, since these tires are so narrow, I'm not concerned there. However, might the 33.3 inch diameter be too tall? (keep in mind I'm running ~3 inches of lift).

Thanks!

What vehicle are we talking about?

You are right with that size your rims will be fine. You will likely have some minor rubbing issues offroad but nothing a little trimming won't cure.

Yea just some standard trimming and banging. Maybe the body mount cut mod too.

A 255/80 is a 33? I thought my 265/75 were a 32.6 or something like that. I guess I need to pay attention to tires size a little more.

By the way I like the bfgs

correct. 265/75s are about a 32'' tire.

255/85s are 33ish.

ya, the rims will cause the tires to balloon and be taller (narrow rim) or stay flat and be shorter (wide rim). But I like my KM2s FWIW. they suck in the snow and ice on roads but do fine on dry pavement and do great for a radial tire in the rocks. they dont have the best lateral traction but I just adapted my driving style offroad to accommodate that and use it to my advantage (makes it easier to pivot on the sliders ect).

Km2's are the way to go. I have no complaints about mine. But like AvsFreak said they do suck in snow and ice on the road but nothing Four wheel drive wont fix.

BTW I was talking difference between a 235 75 16 vs a 235 75 17, but avsfreaks points are valid as well.
