Default WTB: 3rd Gen 4Runner or 96-98 Grand Cherokee

The time has come to let someone else enjoy little Timmy Tacoma.

I'm looking for his replacement now, as I can't go without a whip.

98-02 4Runner
- 4WD
- Auto
- 6 cylinder

Any leads are greatly appreciated : >)

V8 is out of the question.

I'd like to be in a ride for $7K or less. I would really like to get a ZJ. I had one back in high school and loved it. The 4.0 is a great engine and gets great gas mileage. Tough little suckers, much like the Tay-otas. However, the Jeep tends to be about half the price of a comparable 4Runner.

Anna wants a 4Runner. Jordan wants a GC. We'll see who wears the pants around here :whipcrack:

Yep... probably gonna get a 4Runner if I can find the right one...

Well there is quite a few on craigslist around little rock. If you're willing to get one from out of state, there's a couple here in the classifieds and you should check over at T4R.org.

For around 7k you can definitely afford a good 3rd gen. Maybe even one that's mildly built for expedition type stuff.

I'll keep an eye out.

Either vehicle must have:
- 4WD
- Auto
- 6 cylinder
- Prefer cloth seats

I'll check it out when I get home to see pics, but likely not happening. Looks too built for a street-pounder. I already have one 1st gen to keep together

Wasn't sure on the split. Thought I saw some 96s that looked like 2nd gens yesterday. Dunno...

Either way, a lot of those early 3rd gens are not what I'm looking for. Too many miles, or just plain ugly. Sorry...

Is that it? I saw that one yesterday. They live on Sugar Hill Road. It's pretty clean!

The owner seems to be into 4Runners. He's always got one or two in the driveway that he's tinkering with.

Thanks for the links and leads, fellas. I'll check them out.

I'm looking for a STOCK 4Runner. The fewer the mods, the better. I don't want to worry about someone else's mods. This will be a street pounder.

Dude, good times. That was awesome! I remember that very clearly. A/C had started to vent water into the passenger compartment. Took out the seat to work on it and clean up the water. Awesome...

Thanks for the laugh, Faber

Not legit. I found the same ad, same pictures, same description, same everything except different location. Was in Alabama as well

http://bham.craigslist.org/cto/2968246685.html

Yeah, I got all excited and tried to figure out how I could get to LR last weekend but for some reason I never got an email from them

Spammers - they can eat poop and die.

Looking at a couple 4Runners this weekend. Will probably know something by middle of next week. Cross your fingers!

My fault, players - the 1997 awesome totally-clean 4Runner is in Quantico, VA

Quote:
WayneBarlowe@comcast.net

Hi Jordan,

I'm really sorry to reply so late. My 1997 Toyota 4Runner SR5 is still for sale. I'm currently stationed in Quantico, VA until Tuesday next week ( May 1st ). You're more than welcome to come and inspect the 4Runner when I come back. That will be possible if I'll still have it because I also listed the 4Runner on Ebay. Whoever wins it will be the next owner. If you'd like to secure the deal before anybody else does, then please buy the 4Runner on Ebay. Let me know if you need directions to the auction once it starts or if you have any questions at all. My final price is $3,700.00.

The price is not negotiable and I do not accept any trades.

For more pictures see the link below:
http://photobucket.com/WayneBarlowe

Quick info:

137,000 Miles
V6 / 3.4L Engine
Automatic Transmission
4 Wheel Drive

Thanks,
Sgt. Wayne Barlowe
Sounds legit, right?! Gonna hop on the plane tomorrow and drive it back. Hot dang!!!

Well, call me crazy, but this LR 4Runner might actually be legit... Hmmm...

http://cgi.ebay.com.p-id.co/ebaymoto...m=320594904225

Quote:
Hi Jordan,

The auction just started, eBay posted it after 8 hours sorry I don't make the rules. About the 4Runner, all power/electric options work as they should on the 4Runner. It has been serviced recently and garage kept since then. Water pump and timing belt were replaced at 127.000 miles (every 10k miles), no warning lights on and the airbags were never deployed. Other than normal wear there is nothing to report ( see pictures ). Selling because we can no longer afford to keep the 4Runner too. I've sent you an email from eBay so you can check out the 4Runner. If you complete the checkout process email me to confirm whether you want to pick-up the 4Runner on Tuesday next week or I can drive/deliver it within 600 miles from Little Rock, AR. If you need to call me I'll be available if not on duty/field work, please leave a message if it's important and I'll catch up.

Interesting...

eBay says:
Quote:
Note: This is a private auction. It is visible and open to pre-approved bidders or buyers only.

Waste of time, IMHO. It's too cheap for as nice as it is. If he's legit, then he's not disclosing something about the 4Runner that is probably important. For example, has the timing belt ever been done? No mention of that, but the mileage indicates that it should have been done if maintenance was followed.

Says "Water pump and timing belt were replaced at 127.000 miles (every 10k miles)". Either he's missing a "0" or that's a very short interval for change on the timing belt

This is one of the better-executed scams I've seen in a while, but, yes, I'm pretty sure it's a scam. I just hate it that people do this under the military disguise. Pisses me off...
