Default V8 Swap Help

The local junkyard has 2 or 3 first gen 4Runners. I'm toying with the idea of buying them to swap a Chevy smallblock, automatic, and transfer case into.

I know there's got to be a ton of how-to's on this, but for the life of me I can't find anything on here or IH8MUD. If someone could point me in the right direction, it'd be much appreciated.

Oh, and where do you guys get your patch panels from?

Singtoe on T4R.org swapped in a 4.7L V8 from a Sequoia...

Perhaps he would be of some help? Different ball game with a Chevy drive train though.

Thanks, I saw that, but I'm looking for information on any issues that were found. Also trying to dig up info on using a Chevy automatic and transfer case.

Try Pirate. Domestic V8's and drivetrain swaps are pretty common over there

And of course, even though I tried registering a few years ago, I still can't re-register since they say my e-mail is in use. And no, nothing's winding up in my junk mail folder.

They told me I couldn't sign up because my email is associated with hotmail which created too much spam for them. WTF...

Swapping to a small block is going to destroy toyota axles. We just took apart our old truggy for that exact reason. tired 305/700r4/toy case and over the course of its brief lifetime it ate 11 ring and pinions. Go watch extreme 4x4 and the episodes they did on a small block in a toyota and see what they had to do keep it running. lots of usable information there.

Just read the toyota bible on pirate. You dont have to log in to read it. It has everything on engine swaps. I also have the downey manual that has the step by step instructions. I can e-mail that to you Im sure if you want.

I did a Lexus all aluminum V8 Swap - weighs less than an iron small block, uses all Toyota parts, and they practically give them away in scrap yards.

X2 on not swapping in a Chevy V8. Your yota toothpicks wont take it. You'd have to beef up you're axles with 1 or 3/4 ton chevys most likely. By the time you swap in a whole bowtie driveline, motor to rear axle, you couldve been not broke, and wheeling either the toyota or the chevy the whole time. Chevota's are awesome, dont get me wrong, but they're more of a money pit than normal.
If your dead set that you can swap in a SBC, and go easy on the skinny pedal, then check out Yotatech. they have a whole Motor swap forum for domestic swaps. heres the link: http://www.yotatech.com/f163/
