Good point. I kept thinking it would be nice if there was some way I could temporarily make the engine rigidly mounted.

Also, now that I have the trans off (finally!) that damn pipe keeps falling down in between.

I hope the engine hasn't tilted back too much, since it doesn't look like there's any easy way to jack up the rear of the block, and I can't lower the rear of the transmission very much because the crossmember is still in. (I removed the bolts but it's stuck in place).

Oh, and the dowel pins are not rusty, nor is there anything wrong with the shaft or pilot bearing. No clue as to why it was so hard to get apart.

My crossmember was smashed on a rock to a point where it was not going to come out and had to be cut off and I had to fab a new one which added significant time to the clutch job
