With a one piece you would need to keep and eye on the Ujoints. With the 2 piece you will need to keep an eye on the carrier bearing. The nice thing about the two piece is that it doesn't transfer any vertical loads on the output shaft bearing of the xfer case. "also, i suspect that a one piece would wear out what ever is holding it up faster... eg tranny/t-case."
The crossmember is going to be fine, its the bearings in the case that you would need to keep an eye on. Some people use the one piece and love them. My personal preference is to keep the two piece unless you have a sick amount of travel in the rear, then a one piece is the only way to go.
Dont think I have a pic that would show this, but this is how a 4runner is setup from factory.
Your drive shafts have a slip yoke I thinkk, and allow the yoke to slide/plunge in and out a little as travel is expressed thru the suspension. Were if you have a solid drive shaft (like mine) the yoke is at the end of the drive shaft and slides onto the splined output bearing from the tranny.
I have no idea really if Im correct in my assumptions of the taco vs 4r as far as plunge.
But the one thing that I can say for certainty, is just make sure that they balance the DS as perfect as you can get. :2cents:
oh, and making sure they make it the correct length. if you look close, the dom one is slightly shorter than the stock. I got ripped really, so be careful with who you choose.
Sorry to hijack... but seriously, does anyone know where to find junkyard tacos? I need one of the connectors that plugs into the ECM on a 5VZ, and I've looked pretty hard around here with no luck. Taps wasn't any help either.
I posted it on another thread, but I would give K and P a call. When I was there, they had plenty of taco and tundy axles and drivetrain parts.
I know its scarce for the taco, but give em a call. They are a huge toyota scraper. Not sure of anything in SLO though Jump, wasnt into wheeling when I lived there 10 years ago.
Thanks for the link, just gave them a call. Was told the manager is going to call me back, lol. But yea, I've looked in Slo, Oceano, Arroyo Grande, up on the Mesa, no one has Tacomas.
Yeah man, its really hard to find junkyard parts around here. Just not many parts for tacomas, if any at all. SLO salvage has like one old 2wd tacoma but its swiped clean. Same goes for Honda parts too.
after putting on the dakars i have a slight vibration from 0-10 mph, i was told that the 1 piece drive shaft takes care of that problem. the vibration is so minimal that im problably just leave it as is, rather than risking a different problem.
