Anybody planting a garden this spring? I'd be totally willing to exchange hard labor in order to enjoy some fresh produce.
Is anybody a member of any community farming co-op? That's also a cool idea. You pay a membership fee and then get a portion of the harvest all season long. If you don't have money, you can get a discounted rate by contributing manual labor. I don't think there's one of those around here.
I'm trying to grow some peppers at home; jalapenos, serranos, and cayennes, but they're hardly a meal
I haven't decided if I'm planting the garden again this year. I think I get too much shade for a decent crop. If I do, it'll be the same as last year, pablano's, jalapenos, seranos, oregano, cilantro.
are you looking for space? or some produce to mooch? (anybody with a garden usually ends up with waay too much and trys to pawn it off so mooching is completely cool in my opinion).
As long as I live here in Greeley you can have all of the tomatos, zuccini onions and carrotts you can handle. I'm serious just come get them we pick em by the grocery bag DAILY the garden is huge and my mom doesn't like tomatos.
Trying to grow some seeds from a grocery store tomato that were sprouting...they're about a foot high, planted in a tupperware container on the windowsill...but I'm not always good about watering them
I'll be gardening in pots again (since we rent and might move I want to be able to take my garden with me) Doug I would be down with coming up and planting some stuff at your digs... I am gonna start my seeds early this year too (Indoor).
I want Tomato's, Peppers, Zucchini, Squash, and all kinds of herbs!
Damn, now I'm excited! All this talk about tomatoes and peppers! Ole!
Doug, I definitely want to plant some vegetables at your place. I don't know much about gardening in general, but I probably know enough to get started. If you're planning on planting this year, I'd def like to help out so's I could learn more about it. Of course, I'll bring BEER!
Matt & Eric, what do you guys plant in your gardens?
Do you start the seeds indoors beforehand?
When do you start the whole planting process--in April? May?
I really need to do some research!
We usually plant 2-3 tomato plants, lots of basil, marjoram, and misc herb, 1-2 pepper plants. Our garden keeps shrinking as swingsets and misc other kid crap takes over the yard. We used to do lettuce, carrots, cukes and squash with good success.
We never plant earlier than 5/15'ish (except for lettuce which handles frost just fine), and try to buy decent sized tomato plants since the growing season is short and it takes at least a couple months to get red ripe tomatoes.
We just picked up seed for spinach and we'll probably have gobs of cherry tomatoes pop up again this year. We did chard last year and it was ridiculous ho much we ended up with. Reportedly we have some asparagus hiding out there, but it might have been raked out by accident (by I don;t know who... ) We haven't had time to do much, but have a nice plot in the back yard, as well as a compost pile. There is also chatter about our neighborhood putting together a community garden.
I'll be planting my 3 varieties of peppers again at my parents place since they have the space. I love the fresh stuff to make salsa. I do a nice pico style salsa that seems to go over well, I'll have to make up a batch here sometime for people to try.
I have extra tomato plants, chives, squash, and watermellon if anyone wants some. My kid sister gave em to me. They were started by seed indoors so they aren;t as big as those from home depot but I think they will be just fine!
A neighbor works for a large produce company... so I get awesome hot house tomatoes from there before transportation and ethanol heaters can ruin them ... and now I get beer from another neighbor!
Does anyone want any seeds? I still have some left over of 2 varieties after filling up half the tray with them. And even if half of the plants start in the tray's, I'll have ALOT of plants if anyone else wants some. With so many that will probably grow, how many do you think you'll want Eric?
So I am gonna do SOME container planting but after talking with Doug I think I'll get some 2x6 boards and make a mini plot out back. I got a bunch of soil and pete (not to mention plants) from the husband of a woman friend. Whenever he is done with a job he gets to keep the extras and for some reason he likes to give em to me!!
Eric, do you and Kat want some Zinnia's and Petunia's too? (Aside from the other stuff I plan on bringing)
