we'll see. I think it will only work if I can get the price down enough to make it worth while for people to buy... The 'kit' will go after a completely different market than those buying a 'bolt-on'.
love your new LCA skids...great idea!

In my opinion the rear axle slides over rock easy enough. And to reduce ground clearance makes no sense to me. the bottom of the axle is thick and can withstand a lot before it fails. But back into a rock and wedge the ring gear stuck and you are fcked

I dont think this is really designed to protect the bottom of the axle. More so the 3rd member and where it bolts to the axle. I have seen two third members literally break in half on the trail its not pretty.

depends on what terrain you are wheeling. My experience on the hi-Sierra trails and plenty of gouging of the diff housing (yea it is 1/4" thick on the bottom but by the time I added the skid it was closer to 1/8" ) along with NOT easily sliding over rocks, scaring the pinion and sheering off a zerk lead me to build my first skid. As for clearance lost...1/4" -3/8" with this design. I do have another one in the works that is based more on the old 9th-degree 2-pc skid that I'll play with when I have time. That design loses no clearance at all as it utilizes the bottom section of the housing.

or...run 40s and a D60 and who needs a skid

I thought I'd bump this thread to make it more visible and to see if any progress has been made...

So 7 pages since I started this thread in November of 2009 and it ends not with a bang, but a whimper. Can't say I'd want to drop a few grand just to sell a couple skids either. Not meant to be I guess.

Hytenor,

Do you have a link to your build on that pinion/diff skid?
