Passenger side of the engine block...
![]() But it's not likely the starter... if it fires up More suspect is the the drive belt(s) pulley bearings and/or related components... fan clutch, power steering pump, ac compressor, alternator, water pump There's a link posted to the Factory Service Manuals at the top of the Tacoma "Early Tech folder" You might want to read thru.. and maybe learn something as it sounds like you really don't know squat about yer junk. or for that matter... automotive in general I'd also listen to your engine fire up... while standing near that. Hood open and use a listening device if need be... to pin point the noise. Yes... someone else will need to turn the key, unless you have a remote start.

Screeching is not a starter. Like was posted above, something to do with your belts or pulleys, etc.

Did you miss the part about the vagina...?
![]() This is something you should be able to easily tell where the noise is coming from if you can stand in front of the engine bay while someone starts it. If you cant find someone to help, try inspecting your belts for glazing, wear, cracks, and taughtness. You can also try spraying a little WD40 on the contact side of your belts, if the noise stops or changes you've found the problem.

IMO all belts should be changed when you do the timing belt (v6) or 80-100k miles on the 2.7

not yet, going to test it this weekend. had some parts/service for my motorcycle that cost me time and money. yea, i'll see which one it is and replace it. then save for the T-belt and WP. wondering if i should switch to electric fans and/or light weight crank pulley when doing the work...
