actually FZ & Oak Tree are still open, however Oak Tree will be selling sometime early next year. FZ is not planning on selling. However unless either one of those 2 puts some effort into marking their property lines you run a chance of being cited for trespassing on other peoples land.

Also FZ owns 3 parcels totalling 200acres altogether, one of which is seperate from the other two and landlocked by one of the owners who doesn't want people wheeling on his land

I've never been to Wellsville, been wanting to go though but I keep hearing that its been shut down to the public. I heard something about the land getting sold or something. Its been all over the offroadohio web site. Anyone wheel out that way? I thought that I had run across someone that said they had been there recently. Whats up with Wellsville these days? The pics from there look sweet and I know some people that would like to take a cruise out there

this was our discussion on Wellsville http://www.tacomaterritory.com/forum...ad.php?t=44295 the land owned by Rawson near the tracks/staging area that the silt dump is going to be on is in the beginning stages of being cleared as far as I can tell from our most recent trip http://www.tacomaterritory.com/forum...2&postcount=35 . On a positive note Dave from Oak Tree recently told the guys from HOF that he's not selling his land till 2008

Just read on another forum that the EPA has shut down the silt dumping and that the coal liquification isn't happening either. Can't say how reliable the source is. Just repeating info posted elsewhere.

Oaktree is going to stay open this year, but the coal liquefaction plant is going to happen. The below artitle is from the business Journal as of today.

Baard Energy’s Coal Liquefaction
Plant Moving ‘Full-Steam Ahead’
March 27, 2007 6:24 a.m.
By Dennis LaRue
EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio – Baard Energy LLC’s plans to build a $4 billion coal liquefaction plant just west of Wellsville are going “full-steam ahead,” Tracy Drake said Monday night.

Support from Columbus and Washington is falling into place, Drake, the chief executive officer of the Columbiana County Port Authority, told his board. Baard’s Clean River Fuels subsidiary could submit the needed applications to the Ohio Environmental Agency by June.

“The state is embracing the [financing] package,” Drake continued, with the Ohio EPA getting ready to authorize the issuance of $4 million in bonds to ensure air quality at the liquefaction plant.

Last week Drake was in Washington visiting U.S. Sens. George V. Voinovich, R-Ohio, and Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, and U.S. Reps. Tim Ryan, D-17th Ohio, and Charlie Wilson, D-6th Ohio to ensure backing. “We have allies on both sides of the aisle,” Drake reported.

Because of the extremely low levels of pollutants in the jet fuels and diesel produced and the use of coal instead of petroleum, both the departments of Energy and Defense are behind the plant, he said. Energy is waiting for more progress before issuing loan guarantees and Baard corporate officers – Baard is based in Vancouver, Wash. – met recently with the secretary of the Air Force to update him on their progress.

Tied to the coal liquefaction plant are the new docks and crane system at Wellsville Intermodal Park. The board awarded a contract for $3.63 millions to Hohl Industrial Services Inc., Cleveland, to build an overhead bridge crane with a 50-ton capacity that can handle 54-foot containers, the largest made.

Because it took so long to get funding – the authority expected to receive it 18 months ago – the price of steel rose substantially and the original specs had to be revised. Thus Hohl will build a system that allows the crane to unload barges and load trucks and cars on the rail spur the port authority owns but not the Norfolk/Southern line that crosses the industrial park.

When additional funding becomes available, Hohl or another contractor can extend the crane system, Drake said.

The crane, which Drake called a “direct lift,” will be able to lift the full 50 tons unlike “pick-lift” cranes that can effectively lift only 20 tons despite a greater nominal capacity.

Since semi tractor-trailers have a maximum weight they can carry of 80,000 pounds or 40 tons, the crane can load such a rig with two containers lifted from a barge.

Warming to his theme, Drake noted that systems such as that to be built in Intermodal Park are essential to keeping cargo moving inside the United States because the number of containers needed will exceed by one million the East and West Coast ports’ capacity within a year or two.

Drake reported the president of the Ohio Senate, Bill Harris, has named him one of 12 public members of the Ohio Transportation Task Force. Drake, who will receive no additional compensation, will lend his expertise on transporting freight by water. Also serving on the task force is Sen. Capri Cafaro, D-32, Liberty.

The port authority board approved the issuance of $18 million in bonds so Total Waste Logistics LLC, Youngstown, can improve the 35.7-mile short line that runs from Youngstown to Darlington, Pa., or repair cars that haul construction debris to its landfill in Negley, and make improvements on that landfill and another in Findlay.

Roughly two-thirds of the $18 million will go to repairing the railroad cars, the other $6 million to buy equipment for the landfills “and improve the facilities in Negley and Findlay,” Drake said.

At the former Eljer Plumbingware site in Salem, the port authority board awarded a contract for $11,900 to Civil & Environmental Consultants Inc., Pittsburgh, to “conduct groundwater monitoring and reporting activities” to ensure it complies with Ohio EPA standards. The cost was built into leasing the site to one of the parties interested in reopening it, Drake iterated.

Appalachian Cottage Industries, “a project aimed at supplementing the income of the ‘working poor’ in the Appalachian region,” will rent some 300 square feet of office space in the port authority building, 1250 St. George Street and pay $200 a month rent. Linda Rhodes, president of the East Liverpool Business Association, signed the lease.

The association hopes to sell many of the arts and crafts via the Internet, Drake said. The Appalachian Cottage Industry’s premise is the area abounds with artisans and craftsmen who produce quality products but as individuals do not have the ability to sell these products through seasonal crafts shows and fairs.

“The target population is senior citizens, single parents and two-parent working families with incomes at or below the national poverty level,” Drake said.

We have been thinking of leasing/buying additional property in the future. But nothing is set in stone. If and when we do you will know more.

Charlie, have you heard anything? Don't you have a site down there?

This sucks. If everything at wellsville goes away, it may be time to sell the truck and start showing my dirtbike some love again.

I haven't heard anything about it but I haven't been down there since April. It wouldn't surprise me, Dave made mention it could still sell when I paid the site dues early this spring. It will definately suck if it's true. It is hard to beat Wellsville without travelling a long way.

2012-04-07 Trail Report: SuperPoser has returned to Wellsville.

Lots of people are going in across the railroad tracks.
Today, there was ~30 trucks with trailers for bikes and quads parked just over the tracks. This is where I parked today and had no issues.

Forbidden Zone ATV Park is now The Village and charges $15 per rider...

We basically road from the tracks to Scooby Doo and did some hills and trails on the way... The trails have eroded greatly since I was last there in 2008...
Some of the trails I used to guide stockers through would have body damage today.
I saw a sami on Lower Twister, but Upper Twister looked like no one has been on it for a wile.
Scooby Doo looked very eroded (I didn't try it today but have done it on my ktm in the past). There was a Jeep stuck about halfway up Scooby Doo... I didn't stick around to see what happened.

Good day of riding.
