Default aww snap...well crack

radiator has a hair line crack about 5" long on the opposite side of where the hose connects. Nothing is cooler than having fluid all over the top of your engine and across the hood. Had to patch it to stop loosing fluid, so some RTV came in handy for now.

Maybe a stretch, but is there any way to just buy the top plastic? I don't know if it is even possible to pry up the tabs. I might be in store for a new rad huh?

JB weld it... see how far that gets you...

or just replace it... prolly around $ 100.

Or check with the radiator rebuild shops...
I'm sure they know where to get parts for a rebuild.
^ tho' if you don't do it right... could be a total waste of time.

it's likely the core is corroded and needing help as well.

If it were mine... I'd just order a new/rebuilt radiator...
and maybe try the JB weld while I wait for it to arrive.

I don't see a silicone holding for very long.

Thanks TD, I guess better safe than sorry. I'll be shopping around tonight. Taco is down for the week for some rebuildin', so I have time to wait for a new radiator to come in.

I've replaced 2 radiators (in separate vehicles) for this same issue. I've never seen then successfully patched. The heat and pressure makes patches only temporary. Replacement radiators for both vehicles (Tacoma and Mitsubishi) were about the same, $120 at wholesale cost.

Be aware of the size differences on Tacoma radiators. The radiators with the larger trans cooler are about 3 inches deeper. There are also 2 different widths.

Thanks for the heads up! Through my brother, NAPA quoted him 105 for the spectra rads. I read good and bad, mostly good about them. They treat my brothers shop really well and they would swap it out if the warranty ran out or it craps out on me, so I'll give it a go.

I replaced mine about 5 months ago. I had a hairline crack approx 2inches directly across from the top hose. I sanded it and cleaned it really well with alcohol and then applied JB weld. After letting it sit for 24 hrs I started the truck and drove it. JB weld held fine for about 3 days at a time (30 minute commute each dayto work). Replace the thing and be done with it.

I have a spectra that I just put in mine. Seems fine and does the job. My only gripe is the the plastic part that you attach the radiator cap to. Mine had to be sanded a bit to make the OEM cap work.
