Hey guys,
Not sure if anyone will remember me, but I was fairly involved in these boards quite a few years ago. I built my truck into a pretty capable pre runner (actual go fast in desert - not the model) and then got rid of it probably 5 or so years ago. I am now looking to get another Tacoma, this time as a reliable daily driver. No mods - I know, boring. Anyways. I found a 1999 3.4l extra cab TRD pre runner (model). It has 180k miles and they are asking 8k. Is this reasonable? What should I look for on these higher mileage 3.4l? I assume the timing belt - is there anything else? Im pretty set on a 3.4 over the 2.7. It is going to be mainly driven by my wife, so it has to be automatic. I definately do not want an automatic 4cyl truck. I also have no need for 4wd - so I am also definately looking for a prerunner model. Any advice on what to ask, what to look for and red flags are all greatly appreciated. Its been a while since I've been involved with Tacomas, and I had a 2.7 manual - so the 3.4 is a bit of a new area for me anyways. Edit: I should also mention that im looking for spend less than 10k. Definatey want an early model. Would prefer to get a double cab, though not entirely necessary. How much value does the double cab add over an extra cab? Thanks Travis

$8k for a 13 year old prerunner, with 180K? Tell them to go pound sand.

First off, welcome back...
8k is a bit much for that truck, and a double cab will most likely be over your price limit. Some tacos had a frame recall, so be sure to look for rust, but other than that just be smart about researching and inspecting. Put the time in and you wont be disappointed. Good luck.
