I talked to a Grant representative the other day and he said they even they dont make an adapter to tacomas due to the air bag issue. They dont want to be held liable for someone removing their airbag to put in one of their wheels.
The only option I see is stripping the column down to the steerting shaft and getting a shaft coupler to mount a wheel. Does anybody know of any other companies that can mount to the existing steering wheel flange?

well, seeing as it's illeagal to remove it ( which can only be enforced if your state conducts safety inspections, or a dealer wont take as a trade because it's disabled) I doubt anyone will make anything and you'll have to fab it yourself.

Why don't you just put a wheel cover on the thing and be done with it? They got all those nice furry things out there in purple, pink or almost color you could ask for. Something along these lines would be nice. LOL

Supposedly it's like this... The aftermarket steering wheel companies find it 'legally risky' to be advertising or selling apparatus to allow you to violate federal law (by removing SRS equipment). The Grant and Lecarra adapters for the last pre-Taco generation ('89 - '95) will fit the '95.5 - '04 Tacomas. I can't vouch for adapters from any other manufacturer, but I wouldn't be surprised if the same principle applies. Anyway.... A (last-generation) pre-Taco adapter will permit you to use *either* a Grant or Lecarra wheel (or any wheel using one of those manufacturers' bolting scheme). NOTE: Using these adapters may leave you with a little bit of a gap between the wheel and the column cover (in case you're picky about looks). I've also seen claims that certain adapter / wheel combos might leave you with a wheel farther out (nearer you) than the factory one was... |

There is the answer I was looking for! I was thinking the same thing, since Toyotas are pretty good about being interchangeable.
Thanks!
