Probably just pull the panel and hammer out as much as I can then throw some black paint on it to keep the rust away

Bet you were excited to get those. Have a general plan for the front since you are linking it now? Still planning on waiting until the winter to start the SAS?

Yea i'll still be waiting, still have to collect a bunch more parts.

Planning on 14" coilovers, motor cage, dove nose, shooting for a frame height of less than 26 on 40's while maintaining HOPEFULLY at least 5" of up travel. I plan to front half the frame to accommodate everything being so tight to the motor. I'll be running 37" stickies for the first couple of seasons after the swap, and the goal there is 22-23" frame height with the 37's. I think if i go much lower I'll be on my belly all of the time, and i'll get frustrated with it.

Sounds like an excellent plan to me, Nate. Can't wait to see it all built. You'll get used to getting the lines right for clearing your diffs wheeling on 37's, then when you go to 40's that extra inch and a half of clearance is an added bonus. I like it.

With a custom link suspension done right, I bet you'll reach those target specs. But since you've laid it all out, I gotta ask... If when the time comes you find out that a 26" frame height would be exceeded with 5 inches of uptravel, do you prioritize the uptravel and go higher or sacrifice it to keep the frame (and C.O.G.) lower? I know what I'd but do, but its your truck... just curious.

Small updates.

Collected parts
second FF 80 rear, elocked, stripped down

3rd, shafts, outer chunks, hubs, brakes, etc.

Decided I needed a new look:

Started building my fuel cell... a bit large, at 32 gallons. But it'll still fit where my ford tank is now.

bottom side, before baffle install or any other major welding.

Best part! I finally have my drive slugs from Brian at FROR. Which means, I can finally get the rear diamond in the truck!

They should.

Right now Brian only ran a limited run of the slugs (12 sets I think) but he is debating continuing them, and producing more. You'll have to watch for them on Pirate though, as he does not use the TTORA board.

Didn't get the rear put together yesterday. Either the shafts are too long (what I'm thinking it is) or the drive slugs are made wrong, or a combination of both.

Here's a few pictures anyway.

Mocked up the rear axle last weekend, got everything lined up.

Just some welding

Housing painted:

Had the drive flange powder coated a gold color.

Problem with the outers:

Cap hits the end of the axle, wont seal to drive flange.

Munched the splines in the process of trying to get everything to seat.
Joy oh joy.

Worked through the shaft issue, came up with a fix. Not the most ideal fix, but it will work.

The rear completely assembled:

Under the truck:

Outer chunk:

The next issue I ran into is the drive flange is actually built to a 4.220 outer diameter, where as the factory hub/spindle on the 80 rear is 4.180. This meant my OEM wheels would not fit over the drive flange, however Brian offered to bore out my opening to 4.25 to allow them to fit, which I plan to have him do since my TSL's are still 75% tread or so.

Solution -- even though they're 15's, and they were rubbing hard on the calipers, they went on, cleared the drive flange (aftermarket wheels are 4.25" center bore), and I was able to move the truck out of the shop to rearrange some things.

The tires are 35x12.5R15 KM2's, with 2" backspaced wheels. It's WIDE with this backspacing. Good thing I plan to run 4" or 4.75" backspaced racelines

And here is where the truck will sit to do the front end on it. Just need to get the frame leveled, and braced before I start cutting everything apart.

Making forward progress, unfortunately it's going to come to a hault. The cummins needs injectors, which is going to run me about 3grand. Has to be fixed too... dammit.

Onto some progress pics, not much, but this is what I got done today with some free time I had. The unfortunate thing is the truck is at my friends shop about 20 miles from my house, so I burn up a lot of time driving back/forth.

Slow start to the day, finding motivation to get everything detached from the frame, get the motor supported, the 'cut mark' measured out, and squared, a few other odds and ends. But after a few hours of dicking around, i had this.

Afterwards I slapped the new pan, and pickup in. Now i feel like a :homer: for ordering the t100 dip stick, dip stick tube, etc. etc. because after cutting my original dipstick down to fit, it's cut just under the 'full' mark, so it would of still worked just fine. Oh well, live and learn.

Cant argue with free 3/16 plate .

This is what my winch will mount to, I still need to add 2 more 2x3 1/4 wall tubes to it front to back at each corner on the front piece. Then my bumper will be built off of this. I also plan to scab plate the corners, and top where it seams to the "base" of the frame.

Made the motor mounts up as well, turned out alright. Not the best, but I am happy with them.

Anyway, Sunday I picked up a friends welder and got it to the shop. Today a friend of mine got it all wired up (extension cord made), and we were ready to rock. So the only logical thing to do now, was get to welding

I got the whole front section of the frame welded, as well as both outer scab plates. I still have to do some work, and make inner scab plates, then I can get the motor mounts welded in and the front will be ready to start on locating the axle/links.

Well progress has been slow due to lack of time, and real life catching up with me. However, I manged to get a few things done this weekend. Nothing great, or even a huge step, but figured Id throw in a few more pictures. Everyone likes pictures right?

Got the body re centered and bolted back down to the frame after the body lift install, threw some panels back on the front to scope out how it would look, got my front rad support mounts made and 1 slider cut off/frame ground down so I can plate it.

Tuesday I will hopefully have time to get more work done on it.

The piece of 2x3 that was welded underneath the frame rails had the motor resting on it, until last night anyway.

Heres where I'm at now.

Its going to be sweet man!

Motor mounts look good. Cutting the frame off seems like the way to go these days.

Did you get the injectors in your dodge fixed up? How did you end up dropping them? Yours is a little older than mine but last time i saw it i thought it was pretty low miles?? But thats been a while.

Thanks! I'm anxious to get it done, I'll tell you that much! lol

The dodge actually ended up being a FPRV (fuel pressure relief valve) problem on the rail. I ordered a 'plug' for it so it wont bleed off pressure back to the tank anymore. Seems like everything is going fine now.

The truck your thinking of is actually my dads lol (the red one). Which needs either injectors, or an injection pump. Haven't really got it diagnosed yet, as it never gets driven. Mines an 07 5.9 6spd dually, has 172k miles on it. But I paid about 7k less than what it booked for, so I got a pretty good deal. It was actually at the Bob Pehkus a little ways off I25 for awhile, which is where I bought it from.

My truck and his truck.
