Talking Another Stocker Run June 13th or 14th?

Anyone up for another stocker run June 13th? The 14th is a no go cause of the WFTW wrench-a-thon.

This one will be more tame than Slaughterhouse with a max Trail Damage difficulty of 3.

THE TRAIL(S):

Johnny Park Road and Pierson Park Road if its open.

We will start off by doing Johnny Park which connects to Pierson Park. If Pierson Park is still closed, well we will just go back the way we came.

Afterwards if people want and time permitting, people can stop in Estes Park or Lyons and grab a bite to eat. I will not be able to, due to other plans.

http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=103

http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=189

RALLY POINT:

The Black Bear Inn Restaurant, which is on the North side of the street as you are heading West into Lyons.

The approximant address is:

4 Ute Hiway, Lyons, CO 80504

http://www.google.com/maps?f=q&sourc...6&z=16&iwloc=A

TIME:

Be at the rally point between 9 and 10a and we will leave for the trailhead at 10a. Or if you prefer, you can meet us at the trailhead at 10a and the rest of us should be there in 15 to 20 minutes.

Well, I've never been on any of those trails, so I'm not sure how challenging they are.

I will be doing some recon this weekend in my Taco to those trails, one so I know how difficult they are and so I know where they are.

Regardless, you are welcome to come.

K at this point maybe don;t plan it for the 14th because we might be doing our huge WFTW Wrench-a-thon (at a real garage with lifts) that day. It has to be a sunday so it will either be the 14th of June or the 28th

Also Yanman, make sure you check that these will be open by then. I assume they will. Another good stocker might be middle saint Vrain (near camp dick) I don;t recomend coney flats ) a trail that connects it because it is pretty gnarly but while up there you can try!. If we are free we will join you.

What would be really cool is to do bunch school all the way through to middle saint vrain. If the gates are open it would be a fun day. Middle Saint vrain has a ton of creek crossings so there will be water (meaning everyone shoul dhave diff breathers - a VERY easy and cheap mod to do!)

OK, the 13th it will be. Thanks, I haven't been paying much attention to when WFTW was going on cause I'm not available.

I will also check to make sure these trails are open. I'm assuming that I need to call the forestry service.

If everyone wants to make a day out of it we can do Bunce and Middle Saint Vrain and perhaps we could do a HOW for those who need diff breathers, like me.

Where do you get diff breathers?

If thats a weekend I'm not working and Johnny Park/Pierson Park (good 2 trails to run one after the other, drop down into Estes, I'd be up for it, assuming my current tires are still alive if I haven't gotten new ones yet. I've done both of them and can be fun for stockers.

Best writeup I've seen on it:
http://www.yotatech.com/~corey/tech/...r/breather.htm

I ran mine up to the top of the bed behind the rear lights instead of the gas filler. Works fine, it's up higher and I didn't have to mess with the filler neck.

Ok sounds good Yancey. And good link Doug. Yeah doing a diff breather is super easy. The trick is just taking an hour to get the parts together!

You want a diff breather so that when you drive through water your hot rear diff doesn't suck water into your diff thus contaminating your gear oil. It's not garunteed water will get in there, but with the temperature change (hot diff, cold water) it is likely... because you already HAVE a diff breather valve on top of your diff... you just need to extend it with a hose so that the valve is up away fromt he water. That's what the link Doug posted tells you how to do!

Well, if its Johnny Park/Pierson Park, I'd be in. Nice easy trails with good scenery. And quite easy if I do say so myself. And would up fine helping anyone that has issues. I know the trails and can spot if need be for people. Done those trails solo with no probs with either vehicle.

So only the rear diff? What about the front?

OK we will see what kind of interest we get, It would be fun to do an all day thing be it Bunce/Middle Saint Vrain or Johnny/Pierson.

I guess it all depends on how many people get diff breathers on their rigs.

OK, looks like we are leaning more toward a Johnny/Pierson run.

I'll give it a few more days to see what develops.

Sounds like fun! I have not been on a run since my truck had 5000 miles on it. I would consider myself a new guy on trail runs, so I will probably be asking everyone a few questions.

Welcome! No worries, I'm still a newbie to the trails, and when it comes to modifying rigs too.

So ask away and we will try to give you some answers.

Where in Northglenn do you live?

Im sure Wendy and i would be in with the FJ. Johnny park is a good one, Bunce is good. Middle stvrain is good and coney a bit harder. Never done pierson park but whatever will be fine. It will be nice to get Wendy wheeling.

Pierson is easier than Johnny, at least the last time I did it. Even had an 05 with stock and 32" tires. He made it.

MSV/Coney is very fun in a open/open truck! Very doable as well. Only concern with stock trucks is the water crossing may be fairly deep in June, but it would be worth looking into if plans for pierson/johnny fall through.
