If anyone has an ARB roof tent I am trying to determine if you could mount it to Yakima round bars. I have a snugtop with 1a towers and yakima round bars (x2) and was going to add two more bars (4 total) to suport a tent but wanted to know if the mounting system will work.

I think the weight limit on a Snugtop shell is 300 pounds. I'm not sure what the RTT weighs, but you might want to check it out before committing.

Snug tops website says a 125 lb weight limit which seems low but I assume is just to cover their axxes. I currently have two cross bars on the cap (cab hi) mounted to "artificial" rain gutters and 1 a towers and am thinking if I add two more cross bars this will help distribute the weight. Also the bars transfer the weight to the vertical component of the shell as opposed to the flat top which seems like it would be more structurally sound. Anyway if it fails...it will make a good story...especially if it happens while the trucks a rockin...
Anyone have any experience on strengthening camper shells?... |

If not mistaken that load rating pertains to while the vehicle is in motion. Check out the Expedition Portal forum for a couple of attempts at bracing the camper shell internally - which is included in the discussion regarding the load ratings.
