Default Belt squeal upon acceleration? Serpentine or pulley?

Ok, so I recently switched out my serpentine belt (82K miles) because it was squealing regularly. Problem fixed. Fast forward to a few weeks later, and I'm starting to get a subtle squeak under the hood (sounds like it could be more towards the driver's side) when accelerating. It's usually more prominent during warm up, but it definitely only happens when accelerating. If I let off the pedal, it stops. Oddly enough, before replacing the serpentine, the squeal happened regardless of whether or not I had the pedal pressed. Any ideas? Not sure if it's a pulley, bearing, or what? I haven't had the chance to get someone to sit in the truck and accelerate for me while I listen.

I have the same problem. Drives me bonkers and I can't maintain a constant speed on the highway without this ridiculous squeal. I feel like it has to do with the throttle cable...

Did you get oil on the new belt or any of the pullies? If so, try blasting some black magic tire shine on it .... might help.

Your ider pulley is dead, get a new one. It really sucks when it finally caves and you lose power everything along with the alternator and water pump.

Thanks, that's a huge help. I was looking down in there tonight wondering how the heck I'm going to finagle a wrench and my hand in there to get the tensioner slid to the side and slide a pin in Suppose I'll get after it this weekend.

x2 take the 4 bolts that hold the fanclutch off and the 2 that hold the shroud and its a hell of a lot easier. in fact that the only way i will do it, its tough with custom skids and bumpers .

Do the bearings in the idler pulleys all have the same part #?

Can't replace just the bearing, only the pulley assembly. And no, you can't get just the bearing from a supply house either.

And it is a five minute job to replace the idler (any one) from below, if you remove the skids plate. Its not worth removing that other bs people are talking about.

You posted the day I read the thread, sorry. FF has an 05+ Tacoma, so I assumed that's what he was talking about since he doesn't specify otherwise. I'm still not convinced it's the pulleys. It's intermittent. Some days it does it, some days it doesn't (no correlation to weather or temps really either), and it's certainly not getting worse. I'm planning to drop the skid (I guess if that's easier) this weekend, and check things out.

When i did that write up, I was working on a '96 with a 3.4.

My '05 hasn't needed any pulley work yet.

I've replaced those bearings in lots of different stuff, American and Metric, so I assumed that the pulley on this motor is the same.

What's different about it?

Does it have something other than a bearing in it?

Thanks for the Input, I will have it checked next time I take it in the Dealer. It does a quick squeal and bangs when the AC kicks in the 1st time.

Nope just a bearing that is not comercially available. I called three bearing suppliers I use for work all the time and none can get the bearing.

FWIW its a Koyo 6302RMX Bearing whose dimensions are:

42mm OD
10mm Bore
13mm Brng Length

Everyone can get a 42/15/13 but then you have to have a special shoulder bolt made or some sleeves to reduce the bore, and by then you are at the cost of the new Idler assembly, $45.

Hell, if someone can find a bearing with those dimensions, I'll take three right off the bat for the three toasted idlers I've got sitting at home.

That noise is likely the AC electric clutch engaging, the bang is from the clutch the squeal or chirp is from the belt slipping a little when it has to start the cold compressor spinning from a dead stop. IMO nothing to worry about.

Yeah, you are. Instead of checking the specs on that bearing you just post up your pick with a smart comment. The regular 6302 has the 15mm bore...thats what they tried to sell me [/

I dropped the skid plate last weekend, and pulled the belt. Spun the pulleys, and they all seem fine. The tensioner seems to be in the worst condition of them all, but it still spins freely. Usually the belt squeals in the morning and afternoon during cold starts, but it didn't do it at all today. Strange.

Tensioner pulley/assembly is $100+ though.

It's not so much as whether it spins or not, but how much slop is in the bearing. If you grab the pulley and wiggle it and it moves, the bearing is shot.
