Default Finally getting started.....

Ok guys.... It's time to spend some money.

I already has a leak from the drivers side of my rack. Then on the Sweetheart Run last month my Driver's side CV started sounding like Jiffy pop when crowded in either direction. I then realized i had a hose clamp off on one side and a busted boot on the other. So.. instead of spending money on repairs.. i decided to rip all that crap out of there and go SAS.

so, after the last 2 years or so of browsing around and reading build threads... i am finally gonna go for it.

So, i already have an axle... now i am shopping for my other stuff.

The axle came from an 85 Yota, it....

..has been flipped for driver side diff drop so i can put it on my Taco
..has been armored and reinforced
..has 5.29 gears
..has disc brake rotors already installed
..has Asco Hubs
..has Marlin High Steer Arms
..was originally set up for a coil over setup (mounting eyes install) but i will have to change that to some spring perches.

On the way to my house right now is a FROR Tacoma Spring mount kit and a third member with 5.29 that i will be putting in the back.

There is a possible used IFS box i may be getting.

A call to Alcan Springs on monday morning with a few final measurements will get the ball rolling on my springs. I will be going with 6" of total lift so i had to get all the other measurements right so Alcan can make the springs like they need to be made.

I have been talking to the guys who will be doing the install and what we are planning is to get everything installed then use his lift to flex it out.. then measure out the proper length for the shocks. So i can get the best possible flex out of it.

There are a few more things i need... and a few more things that i want. But it's all coming together.

I am getting the install done at Searchers 4WD in Prarieville, LA.

Will update as things happen.......

I posted on your lattora thread about this also, but do you plan on using the same alcans in the rear that you have now or are you getting new ones? I may be interested in the old ones if you get rid of them...

A guy that lives in New Orleans and is going to school. I think he used to live in Cali and moved here for school. He been building it and planning on using it for a while then decided to sell it. So i scooped it up!

I talked to him on the phone a little while ago. i am fairly certain he is a member too but have no idea what his user name is. Maybe he'll chime in to the thread.

I am getting new springs that will be built for flex. The ones i have now are built to mock the stock spring as far and weight handling and towing. Just 3" higher. I would take 300 for the set if you are interested. They have been wheeled a few times but mostly just ran around town. i think they were 250 per spring new plus shipping. They come with the U-Bolts as well if you want them.

Yup, Not a huge deal.. i think it's like 2 inches total or something. Between some wheel spacers and the IFS disc conversion it'll push it out about right.

So at the end of last week i pulled the knuckles off to prepare for the FROR brake mounting kit so i can keep my Tacoma rotors and calipers up front.

The kit should be in the mail headed my way, along with some IFS hubs and lockers.

http://frontrangeoffroadfab.com/nfos...422908a749d02c

Yesterday i got my Tacoma SAS kit also from Front Range....

http://frontrangeoffroadfab.com/nfos...422908a749d02c

and my t100 oil pan and accessories listed here:

T100 2wd oil pan # 12101-65030
T100 2wd oil pan pickup tube # 15104-62060
T100 2wd pickup tube gasket # 15147-62020
T100 2wd dipstick # 15301-62060
T100 2wd dipstick guide tube # 11452-62060
T100 2wd union # 90405-10033

got all this stuff from toyotapartsales.com.

Will takes pics later today.....

the caliper for the tacoma is a bit bigger than the ones for the IFS toyota mini-trucks. I am getting the kit because i would rather use the IFS hubs than some wheel spacers and i can then use my existing rotors and calipers on the 85 axle after. In addition to making it a little easier to disassemble when needed just by the way the FROR kit comes together.

I would assume you could use a tacoma caliper with the stock SA rotors but i am not 100 percent. just seems like they might be a little bit too then... i would be worried about maybe hyper-extending the rams in the calipers if you let the breaks wear too much.

Don't even know if it's possible in a toyota calipers but i have seen it done on some others.

So, i was home from work today and decided to do something to the truck... figured it was a good time to bob the bed. I got a good start but my buddy who normally does welding stuff for me ( i have no machine and can't weld for crap, though i am trying to learn) was busy so we'll stick it together properly tomorrow after work. Got 11 inches cut off and got it fit back together pretty close.

First cut made

Second cut in progress...(Drank so much red bull my truck has wings... )

Pile of stuff....

Inside of seam...

Been mocking up my brakes today.

Haven't put all the bolts in yet because my RTV isn't nearby and i haven't yet had the hubs turned down yet to accept the rotors. here are a couple pics of a few bolts in to hold everything.

A few more pics... just because.

Turned down to fit the rotors and got some new Bling.
Might give them a little bit of wire wheel loving later on too.

Honestly i haven't even looked to see if the hose fittings that connect to the rack are the same as the ones on the IFS box. That's small potatoes compared to all the other stuff i been getting done so i haven't even worried. Hoses and fittings are easy.....

I been thinking hard about just going ahead and going full hydro. But i might just go with what i have for now and do that in the fall. Still on the fence.

Default little bit of progress

About a month ago i got bored one day and decided it was a good time to bob the bed. So i busted out the grinder and lopped 11 inch off the back.

Finally got a little time to do some work on my axle.

Got the 4.10 third put in yesterday afternoon and today i put the knuckles back together on either side.

I just got my u-bolt flip kits in so i plan on putting my new springs on the back of my truck one day this week so i can get my 3" lift alcan springs over to Kigmob because he's patiently waiting for me to get them off of my truck.

I finally got the chance to put my springs on the back. here are a few shots.

What do you guys think of the shackle angle? These are the shackles i got from alcan when i ordered the springs. They are certainly good and stout but seem a bit steep to me.......
