Default Barney and McGuire Reservoirs

Ended up doing a little snow wheeling in the hills outside of Yamhill.

Saturday
Up around Barney Reservoir
View point I like. 45°25'17.67"N 123°20'26.98"W

Barney

Quarry for the dam is beyond that creek.

Found some elk in Moores Valley

Hills around Barney from Old RR Grade Road

McGuire Reservoir

Hit a pothole that was worse than expected faster than I should have on some road around McGuire.

Sunday
Found some road above Barney that is not on any of my maps.

Ideal camping spot I think:

And dinner was already there:

When I hit this gate I was 8ish miles from Firebreak 5.
45°28'36.29"N 123°26'13.43"W Sooner or later I'm going to make it to Browns via back roads from my house.

Barney from there:

Some waterfall:

Wish I could have gotten up there:

The more I get out and explore the more I love this part of the state. So beautiful and so much to explore when gates aren't locked.

If you can get your hands on a Stimson key,you can get to Browns camp from Barney. I have done it on my dirt bike, you can also get to Jordan's creek from up there too. There are a bunch of trails out Toll and Murphys camp but they are on Weyhouser land so only when the gates are open. And they are a little narly for a nice truck and you need to be locked up.

I heard Hembre Ridge goes through to Browns eventually. I've been on that road, but I wasn't sure how long or where exactly on it I was before I had to turn back. Do you know if that road is locked up?

The gates at Browns camp or almost always locked. Thats why you need a Stimson key that is the gate at the top of Firebreak right off there mainline. It's like the second right after Barney and it's like 10 miles. But if you keep going on Trask river road I think thats whats called to Henbre ridge. It will take you to Fox ridge go left then you can hit Firefox then Jordan creek and there are a few trails there that you can wheel to Browns camp or take the gravel roads alot of the stuff by Jordan creek is black to double black.
