No idea from me.... I would replace it if you fail the smog test (if it is the cause of the failure)... meaning that the cat is clogged (the screens inside).
But to see that you would have to remove it and visually look or disconnect the o2 sensors and have it smog tested.

Unless you are throwing code P0420 you don't need to replace your cat.

Since the truck has sensors front and rear of the cat, it will tell you when it's not working right with a CEL.

Haha wtf.
I think I'll pull the cat and have a look. If its bad I may punch it out and save for a high flow cat |

You lose money by punching it out. Cuttting it near the body and welding in a straight pipe lets you sell the stock cat to the recyclers like the tweakers do. Except you're selling your own cat instead of a stolen one.

You can fail a Cali smog test with no CEL. Mine was 12 years old when that happened, and a new cat brought the smog numbers back to same as a new truck.

Wasn't there someone on here a while back that really did suck a mouse through his engine and have it kill the cat?

Ya man, leave it alone, or yank it off and throw it in the garage and have a test pipe built up just so you can get this outta your system. You'll regret not having it if you gut it. They beez espensive yo. Especially with the smog Nazis out in Cali.
