Default 22r water in oil

Friend of mines 22r overheated and he thought that he had blown the head gasket. He had the head looked at a machine shop and they did not fine anything cracked. He replaced the gasket, of course but his problem is still there. Any suggestions of what might me causing it??

Thanks
Roger

Did he check the timing chain cover for wear? If there is water in the oil, as your topic title says, I'd bet it's a good possibility the guides broke and the chain was rubbing on the cover, wearing a hole into the water jacket.

I'd bet a 6 pack of a beer of your buddies choice the timing cover has a hole worn right thru it.

I'd wager on the timing cover as well, though I'd also check the hot water lines that run through the intake manifold. (The 22R has these for cold starts IIRC). Also, if there is an aftermarket oil cooler that's a possible mixing point as well.

It's pretty hard to blow a Toyota motor, cracked block, head gasket, possible but that's the last place I would check. I would bet my wife its the timing cover. If it's not too bad don't waste money on a new one. JB weld that sucker and grind the excess off. Mines been holding for 4 years now and I run with guys thats been running that for 7 years and we wheel every weekend

If you are going to bet, you have to have your chips on the table...What kind of beer are you talking about? and we'll need pics of the wife you are willing to wager with!!! I have $.72 and some pocket lint I will put on the timing chain rub too.

I had the same problem. I re did my head gasket and I still had water in the oil. I found the problem. Something happend and the timing chain wore into the water pump. So when ever it starts to get warm all the water would spray into the hole and into the engine. Try and see if thats it. Hope that helps.
