With my recent project, I also put the finishing touches on my modified custom bumper. The turn signals that came with the bumper caused my turn signals to flash very rapidly.
I figure it is due to a lower resistence in the wiring used. I tried to cut the resistor of the stock turn signals out and add them to the aftermarket turn signals but to no avail. Someone mentioned to me that there was an "adaptor" box you can add to the wiring between the flasher and turn signals, but did not have much more detail than that. Is there such a box? Or is there another fix? Or possibly am I S.O.L? it was also mentioned to me that this could be a ticket magnet, is that also accurate? I never really thought about that before it was mentioned to me about this.

Got the answer already! If a thread isn't started by the one who gave me the solution, I will try and do a write up later.

Hi Rob. You need resistors in parallel with the bulbs to make the flasher operate properly. There is an explanation here:

Thanks Mike! I hadn't thought of putting a resistor parallel to the LED to put the load back on the flasher... I ordered up some high-angle bulbs and some of the resistors they recommend and I will see how they do.
I REALLY like the idea of LED's. When I see red and blues behind me, I hate wondering if I have a taillight out

The 1156 and 1157 replacements for rear brake, blinker, and reverse lights were pretty dim compared to the normal bulbs. I also found that the LED lights I got were very directional, and couldn't be seen from much of an angle. The only ones I still have on my truck are the rear blinkers, and those will probably get replaced with normal bulbs soon. I would love to put LEDs back in, but they would have to be as bright or brighter than normal bulbs, and they would have to be less directional. Later, ....Mike

I think ya got it backward pard. You need less resistance in the circuit to slow it down, it's too high now. If you put in LEDs, they don't pull enough current for the flasher to operate properly. I just did the mod that adds a dual filament lamp and turn signals to the side markers and ran that in parallel with the LEDs in the bumper and it worked great.

To make my front LED's work and my LED Jetta side markers work and flash normally, I left the stock bulb plugged in, taped it up and just spliced the LED's into the regular blinker wires. But I do my shit ghetto so don't listen to me LOL

Check this thread out. Mid way down a person posts on how to disable the "bulb out indicator" on the flasher relay. Free, and no need for load resistors that heat up. It works on the Taco. If you don't believe me ask Mandataco. |

Okay, I'll bite. How do you get at the flasher. If I am reading the schematic right, it's on the BACK of the junction block, below and to the left of the steering wheel.

I know it's behind the fuse box under the dash.
