Default Boyles Future Technology in Auburn, CA

Dick referred me to this place when I asked him about higher amperage alternators. I called and talked with them the other day about their services and costs and such. Needless to say, the price is right. While talking with them, the guy mentioned that he shows that Toyota offered 2 different alternators, at least on the 99 Tacomas (not sure what all other years). Anyway, he said that most of the trucks have a 70 amp alternator but that some have an 80 amp. They can upgrade the 70 amp alternators to 120 amps but they can go from 80 up to like 160 or something. My question is, does anyone know, for sure, whether the 70 and 80 amp alternators are interchangeable as far as just bolting right into the same exact place with no modifications? If they are, then I might try to find an 80 amp unit to send to Boyles for rebuild.

It probably says right on the alternator I would imagine.

Ok, I just ran out and checked. It doesn't say. It says 12V and has a bunch of numbers on it, but at least on the tag on the visible side of the alternator, it doesn't say the amperage.

write those numbers down and call the dealership. They should be able to tell you which alternator you have by that code

Yeah, I just went out and wrote them down. It's really nice here today but it's freakin windy as hell.

Here's the numbers in case anyone is interested:

27060-62190
10 22 11 - 5642

I'll post what amperage this alternator is when I find out.

It's a 70 amp unit. Thanks to Jacque at toyotapartsales.com!!!

We have the same weather up here as you do down there. We are suppose to get some real heavy wind this afternoon.

I wish I could tell you off hand what the codes stand for, but you could contact Chris King and he should be able to tell you what you have.

hey what are you doing this weekend? We are going down to Kentucky for a run, might not be much further for you than it is for me to go to, Care to meet up with us? Well maybe a bit further but anyway! At least I am finally getting a chance to test out my truck after getting it off the "steroids"

I actually just emailed Chris.

Mardi Gras is this weekend man! The parade is Saturday and most of the fun is after that. Later on in the evening, I'm going to the Monster Jam at the Jones Dome. We've got killer seats and pit passes. I'm excited.

Sunday I'm hoping to drop by the painter's place and get at least my rear bumper installed. If he gets the rest of the stuff painted Saturday by some chance, then we'll be working on installing the rest of the stuff.

I figured you were going to be busy, but thought I would give it a shot!

don't everyone that holds a ticket to a monster jam have a pit pass?

Good luck on getting your stuff on this weekend, I know you have been patiently waiting!

I just got a call from my buddy at the transmission shop. He has my driveshaft installed and the truck is ready to rock! man the clock won't move fast enough for me to get out of here to go pick her up! I can't wait to have 4wd drive again!

Now everyone needs to be because i won't be to and give them a especially if they get between me and

Take my word for it, they do. Every screaming 5 year old is going to be at the pre-event, event! It is how they do their merchandizing!

All three of my kids love to go to Monster jams! I think I have been to 10 total, not counting the ones that I went to when Monster trucks were still built on truck chassis. They are a lot of fun! but take ear plugs!

Did you hear me? TAKE EAR PLUGS! and just in case you were not paying attention…TAKE EAR PLUGS!

Oh and I bet Grave Digger will be the very last truck to do his freestyle, that is if he doesn't break during his and Maxium destructions intros! It should be a good show though. Have fun!

Yep, I deterred the group from wanting to go early for the pit tour.

I think that was a wise choice. Last year we walked around the pit party, could not even get close in line to get the kids autographs of their favorite trucks and ended up going to our seat like two hours early or something like that.

We did have fun though waiting for the event to start. Seems these two high school punks decided to take "something" and crashed majorly. the cops ended up having to carry them out in hand cuffs because they were so out of it. The bad thing was my kids were there to witness it.

Just a quick note to say that I highly recommend Boyle for all of your alternator needs. I ordered a brand new, "tweaked" alternator from them and had it in 6 days, and that was including the weekend. They can supply you with a brand new unit in stock form or they can tweak your brand new alternator. They can also rebuild your existing alternator and/or tweak it as well. Anyway, they guys there were great to talk to on the phone and were extremely knowledgable and helpful. Definitely give them a call if you need anything.

By the way, the stock alternator puts out a rated 70 amps max. The new one that I just received from Boyle puts out 75 amps at idle and maxs out at 138 amps. If you have the optional 80 amp alternator on your truck, they can tweak it to put out 160 amps max.

Mine was a brand new unit before they started so that inflated the cost a bit more than usual. The end results was a brand new unit with increased output, shipped from CA to MO for $215. If you have them rebuild it, you're looking around $90-$100.

That's a nice price! I have been thinking about a better alternator, especially after extended winching.

Later,

That was the purpose of my purchase as well. I don't have a winch yet but I wanted to plan for it. I'll also have lights and a compressor to support at some point in time so I figured I'd go ahead and make the investment now when my stock alternator was weak and needing to be replaced. I've also got my spare alternator now to send in to them and rebuild so that I can carry a backup on the trail or whatever.

Now all I have to do is convince the gf that since I "saved" around $200 over the price of some of the other companies' $400 alternators, I should get to spend that $200 on something else.

Jamie, are you wanting to upgrade your alternator? If so, let me know and I'll send my old one out to them to rebuild and have them bill and ship it to you. Then when you get it swapped, you can send me your old one.

Yeah - I'm probably going to get it done. I'll get with you and we'll do what you said.

What kind of battery was that, that you have? Where do you get one? What does it cost? How does it compare to an Optima?

I've got an Odyssey. I think it's a PC1200 or something of the sort. I got mine from this little chain of stores around here called Batteries Plus. I know that they're in other places outside of St. Louis so you might wanna check their website or Odyssey's website for a local vendor. I think that it's at least comparable with Optima and maybe even a little better. I've never owned an Optima before so I couldn't say for sure. Dick Foster is the one that pointed me in the direction of the Odyssey. He's got 2 of them in his truck. He actually has them mounted side by side in the original battery location. It's a nice little setup. I think I paid like $175 or so for mine. That's definitely comparable to the Optima. I'd highly recommend them.

That price is shipped? That's a killer price then. I'll have to look at exactly what I paid for mine. I just can't remember. I looked up local places around Illinois. Here's what I came up with:

All Products Automotive Chicago IL 773-889-4500
Batteries Plus Elgin IL 847-289-8990
Batteries Plus Moline IL 309-764-9555
PLP Battery Supply Murphysboro IL 618-687-3344
Batteries Plus Peoria IL 309-693-0567
Batteries Plus Springfield IL 217-787-6520
Crown Battery Mfg. Co. Villa Park IL 630-530-8060
Batteries Plus Lake Zurich IL 847-550-6545
Batteries Plus Lombard IL 630-268-0443
Batteries Plus Loves Park IL 815-636-2630
Batteries Plus Oak Lawn IL 708-499-6977
Batteries Plus Rockford IL 815-226-4505

The only reason I'd suggest looking locally is in case you needed it warrantied or something. That's all. But the price you posted is pretty good if it's shipped. Now that I think about it, I think I paid $147 for mine locally. I was thinking $174 earlier but I'm pretty sure that I got the number switched.

Just got my Odyssey PC1200MJT today!

...SWEET! - Better than an Optima, I think.

The size of a fuse is determined by the load not the source. Of course I have added to the wiring for all of the add-ons and each added load is fused near the source. Remember, the primary function of a fuse is to protect the wiring and thus your truck from burning.

Thanks Dick,

I thought there was an 80A (or so) fuse between the Alternator and Battery. Assuming the Battery + accessories are a load. The Alternator is now a source that has the potential to create more than 80A. Wouldnt this blow the fuse as the current draw of the load passes 80+ ?
