Default Sport Hood

Hey everyone. I used to be a member of this site a while back when I had my 99 Tacoma. I wrecked it right before leaving for the Navy. Now stationed in Italy getting ready to come back home, I want to buy a new Tacoma. They look amazing! What a great new design. I definetly want to get the Off-Road package over the Sport but I love the hood for the sport models. Can you swap them out? Look forward to hearing from you guys. Glad to be back.

You can swap them out but you're going to have to pay for a new hood. You can't get it that way from a dealer. You could always try and swap someone else with an 05+ Sport... but everyone I have seen wanting to swap has the normal hood and wants to swap for a Sport hood (good luck).

Yup, I concur OR 05Taco. If you want the sport hood with the off road pkg you will be paying $$$$ for two hoods. The dealer will not work with you on that swap.

Or, you could do like many have done (myself included) and find someone with the same color that wants to do a swap. I found mine over on TS in the ads...
My total cost was $0

Oh quit rubbin' it in, doc!!! You know you got lucky as hell with that. There's been threads started here and on customtacos and everywhere in between trying to facilitate such exchanges and they're always 89,000 straight posts of "I've got the regular hood in color X and want to trade for the Sport hood in same color." It's the online version of a friggin' sausage fest.

That's badass that at least one place has 'em for under $275...I always figured they'd cost twice that even before shipping and paint. Time to start shoppin, I guess. : )

I actually checked out the cost of swapping out hoods before I bought my wife's sport 4runner.

You need more than just the hood.

You need the hood, the inner parts of the scoop, some nuts and washers, the squirt thingies for the windshield washers, and a bunch of other assorted stuff.

You aren't going to do this job for 275.

Then, there's paint.

When I priced it, they ballparked it at just under a grand installed and ready to go.

Why would you need new windshield washer spouts. You've already got a set on your current hood. I used mine on my glassworks hood and they weren't even made for that hood. You could easily swap them.

Why do so many people want that hood. And more importantly why are some willing to pay so much for the hood? Iti s a non-functional hood scoop and serves no purpose.

Has anyone modified it for functionality yet? When I bought my truck I was thinking about getting the sport but I told the dealer I didn't want the hood scoop. They said it would be more to swap the hood.

Just not seeing what makes people so wet about the hood scoop.

I have priced all the parts from a bodyshop friend of mine. All of the parts can be had for just under $400.00.

Then you have to figure paint. My buddy said he'd do it for around $150.00.

Are you sure you want the offroad over the sport? The differences as far as I know are the BFG Rugged Trail tires, which are horrible tires on and offroad IMO, and the electric locking diff, which apparantly has breakage issues. The LSD on the Sport is quite good, and you could just put in an automatic locker probably cheaper than a new hood! (I guess I'm sport biased though)

I think it is going to be used when (and if) the TRD supercharger comes out.

That would go well with one of those erector set wings I see on Hondas. Big stick on blower and big stick on wing.

I did the same when i was buying my 4runner. I wanted an SR5 and was going to swap the hoods since a sport was to much for me. Luckly i found my Sport used with 245 miles on the Odo. Now i am happy i got what i wanted. I was quoted about 875 for everything when i was looking in to it.

I needed to replace the 3 pieces of the scoop and that ran me over $100.00. At least the insert already came in my color. I got lucky enough to get my hood off ebay already the same color as mine.
EDIT: Forgot to mention the 3 black rivets you need to put it all together since it come unassembled.
