Default $10 Crystal Beach Access fee no more free beach

I don't now how much this will be enforced but i'm all up for this $10 a year isn't much for how much fun i have down there..

GLO approves county’s beach access plan

From staff reports
The Daily News

Published September 15, 2006

The Texas General Land Office has approved the Galveston County Dune Protection and Beach Access Plan, Commissioner Jerry Patterson announced Thursday.

The county had been operating under a conditionally approved plan since Aug. 16, 1993.

“County officials should be commended for working with the land office to finalize a plan that not only protects county beaches, but enhances them,” Patterson said. “This plan strikes the delicate balance of protecting public access to Texas beaches while maintaining private property rights for those who own land along the coast.”

The Dune Protection and Beach Access Plan allows Galveston County officials to impose a $10 beach user fee via an annual parking sticker for parking on Bolivar beaches.

Money raised through this fee is dedicated to beach-related services.

The plan also establishes a new dune protection line at 200 feet landward of the line-of-vegetation on Bolivar Peninsula, except for areas on the western end of the island.

Development in this area is subject to permitting through the Texas General Land Office.

Also under the new plan, property owners will be allowed, under certain conditions, to build cisterns, septic tanks and septic fields on previously platted lots seaward of a structure provided they do not encroach on the public beach.

that has been coming for a while. We get the papers from time to time at the cabin and that has been a topic of conversation. sounds like a good deal, hell it costs more to park in a parking garage in Houston, plus this is for a year.

Got a question on this topic...sort of. Is CB still a dry beach or can you drink now? Back in the 90's some parts prohibitted alcohol. Obviously I haven't been to the beach in quite a while...

I plan on buying about 6 or 7 of them @ the Jan-Feb price
Sticker system begins in January

By Sara McDonald
The Daily News

Published September 17, 2006

BOLIVAR PENINSULA — Visitors to the Bolivar Peninsula soon will have to buy a sticker to park cars on most areas of the beach.

The permit program will begin in January and affect all but two designated parking areas.

It’s still free to drive along the beach and park at the two free lots: one off Rettilon Road and one next to Dirty Pelican Pier.

The stickers cost $5 if purchased in January or February. After that, they cost $10.

The permits are part of a plan certified Wednesday by the Texas General Land Office.

The Dune Protection and Beach Access Plan lays out new building codes for waterfront construction and some septic systems restriction changes.

The county had been operating under a conditionally approved plan since 1993. County commissioners approved the latest revisions to the new plan in January.

Revenues from the parking permits will go toward beach improvements on the peninsula, said Dennis Harris, county park director.

That could include more restrooms, trashcans or staff.

The stickers are valid until the end of the calendar year and will be available at the Galveston County parks department office and at stores. County employees also will sell the permits on the beach.

Harris said the program would require about $100,000 in start-up costs. After the first year, he predicted that the permits would bring in about $150,000.

The plan also creates a dune protection line 200 feet landward of the line of vegetation, except in an area near the Biscayne subdivision.

The dune line will set where development could begin on beachfront property. It will be overseen as building permits are issued.

No buildings are in violation of the new rule, Harris said.

Property owners also will be allowed to build cisterns, septic tanks and septic fields on previously platted lots as long as they don’t encroach the public beach.

Does this affect the area down close to the ferries? I used to go down to the flats there by the port and fish, even drop a small boat and cruise out to the shrimpboat wreck looking for reds. BTW thanks for the heads up marco

Open it and pour it, ever so slowly, into an empty water bottle

Ah i got it - freeze an inch of water in the bottom of the water bottles, then pour the corona in. Now it stays cold despite transferring containers.

Acid, I think that area will still be free. My cabin is right there at the jetty (on galveston st) right by the big light. I think it is more aimed at the zoo and the mexican beach.

From what i understand stickers will be required for every area except for the two desinated parking areas. But i'm sure being that far down to the ferry that more than likely it wouldn't be enforced than much but parking on the beach out side the two parking area will require a beach permit. At least thats what i'm getting from reading it..

Hopefully they'll use the funds for cleanup. Nothing takes the fun out of a beach trip like a nail (or glass) in the foot.

I've had some good (drunken) times down there the past few years. I don't mind paying an access fee, as long as the money is put to good use.

Now I think I'll buy a lotto ticket and support education.

I'm not racist so don't take offense, this is just how it works sometimes lol.

Just kidding, I don’t get offended I am really laid back, and for the most part I don’t let things bother me.

Never have heard of the spot maybe I should go there and find my relatives. haha

That's cool, I just wanted to make sure I said that because you know how the web is when it comes to shit like that, and while I don't give a rat's ass what most people think, I'm not out to start trouble either

I understand! That is a great way of thinking, I wish some other people on the board would stop trying to start trouble. People who get offended to easily need to lighten up.
