Anyone live in San Diego that has done the locker mod to their late model Taco. I am a visual person and would just like to take a few minutes of your time to see your setup. I have looked at the diagram in the free mod section and it still confuses me. Any help would be very appriciated.

This thread may be of help, not sure if you've already read it.
http://www.ttora.com/forum/showthrea...ight=gray+wire A helpful tip is that in advanced search mode you can narrow down your searches to include only late model tech. It will definitely help you improve your results. By the way, you might want to introduce yourself in the tell us who you are thread. Welcome to TTORA.

If you go to radio shack and get part # 275-218 and then go to tundrasolutions.com go into the tacoma forum and at the top find the locker mod stickey. Go to page 12 and look at post #178, it tells you exactly what color wires to hook to what # posts on the relay. It's very simple, I did it and I know very little about electrical systems. Once you get the relay and look at the # posts on the back you will understand. Just take your time.............
You can do it, it's easy! |

I'm almost 6000 miles away but if you buy my plane ticket and beer while I do it I'll be there tomorrow to help in person-
Or just PM me if you get stuck during the mod, either way I'd be glad to help. Here is the writeup, a little small, but still legible. ![]() ![]()

I wonder if there is a way for the dealership to tell this mod was done via some kind of computer message? like when they check it for other messages....I also wonder what type of warranty that mod would void??

No, there is no way to tell that the mod has been done by reading ECU fault codes. Warranty wise, who cares, just "undo" the mod if you have to take it in for something related to the locker. It is pretty easy to hide your tracks in that department. What would it take like ten minutes and some heat shrink?

Is the lock light blinking? If so, try easing the clutch out a little with the steering wheel turned, it will lock in.

And the purple wire has juice right? All you have to do is tap it, meaning current will still flow through the original purple wire. Is the Blue wire on the same bank (BANK "A") as the pink one? I didn't use a radio shack realay so I don't know the numbering system, but there should be a BLUE, PINK, and PURPLE on "bank A" and then a GREEN, LIGHT GREEN WITH BLACK STRIPE, and PURPLE on "bank B".
EDIT:Another common mistake people make a lot is connecting to the wires that run into the ECU. The wires on the ECU side should be dangling!

The ABS and 4LO light only come on when a) the locker is engaged, or B) the blue wire with the yellow stripe is grounded. That means you probably shorted it out somewhere. Several hundred people have completed this simple mod with no damage to any components, I doubt you hurt anything either. Just match up all of the factory wires and crimp them back together and "undo" the mod. Also is the truck in 4LO, or is just the light on? My guess is you shorted out the purple wire and popped the 4WD fuse.

Check the 4WD fuse behind the little fold out cubbie just below the locker switch. third fuse to the right, bottom row. Relax dude, it's an easy fix.

I have the wiring harness hooked back into the ECU, that's the way it worked once before. Should I leave it unplugged? Can anyone who has experienced a similar problem give me some guidance? Thanks

Sounds like you hooked the relay up to the ecu instead of the locker. Hope you didn't fry your ecu dude. Reread the directions very very carefully and you will understand.

No, I've got it hooked up correctly now. I think I wasn't turning the wheel enough to engage the diff when I was testing it. Everything works like a charm now, as evidenced by the 45 foot ruts I made in the rain-soaked field behind my house.
Also, for everyone who has not done this mod yet, I would encourage you to check it out. It took me maybe an hour total, and only cost about $25 at Radio Shack. Just make sure you tap the ground wire from the coil contact back into the white and black wire running to the ECU, I couldnt find an easily accessible bolt to ground to.
