Cryo treating axle shafts?

Waiting on parts to put together my new rear and I'm wondering if it's worth the effort to cryo treat them?

34:1 crawl with an auto. 250 lb/ft max torque on the motor and 35" tires.

Thanks for the link, none of the places listed there that are 'local' are still at those numbers. I'm searching more local, but don't know that the deal will get any better. Most places are like $6/lb or so. What's a bare shaft weight?

More importantly is this going to be something worth the effort to do?

Just out of curiousity... but wouldn't making the shafts stronger shift your weak point to the gears/t-case/tranny??? Am I thinking wrong???

That sounds pretty high to me. I just had two gear box output shafts selectively induction hardned followed by cryo and temper for $40. The guy usually cuts me some slack though. Just do a search for a heat treat outfit in your area that does cryo. Then go there yourself. Typically cryo treatment is changed for by the pound of metal being treated.

From the qulaity Ive seen with the taco shafts, I wouldnt bother. Save up a bit more and just get cromo replacement shafts. They run about 400 a set if I remember right. And I should have some in stock here very soon.
