Hi guys. I have had 3 toyota ext cabs in the past few years. now I have a 95 tacoma 4x4 reg cab 4 cyl. on start up if you do not give it gas, it will not run. you must hold your foot on the pedal for about a min to keep it running. after that it was sputtering sometimes on the highway, esc when cold. now it sputters all the time! It clears up if you are above 3500 rpms! I pulled the plugs and they were black. what is the best brand to use? also I have a cel on. wont pull up any codes though! The previous owner told me it was like that for 2 yrs. i replaced the igniter and no good! please help!!!
by the way!!!! There is no other like a ext cab yota!!! these reh cabs are so uncomfy!!!! and the ext cab drove and handeled so nice!! thanks guys I appreiciate your help!!!

What do you mean it won't pull up any codes? if the cel is on you should be able to get a code.
I would try to clean the MAF sensor first, pull the ECU fuse and take it for a drive and see if the CEL comes back. MAF causes alot of problems with this truck. If i were you i would take it some where to get the code read then come back and post the code you got, there is alot of people in here the can point you in the right direction. |

Is the black on the sparkplug from oil or is it a black powdery deposit? Does it burn oil? If its a powdery deposit its carbon fouling because its running too rich, which could be caused by a fouled sensor like a bad o2 sensor or a bad coolant temp sensor for the ecm. Check to make sure that you have the proper plugs in the motor and replace them while your at it as the fouled plugs do not help the motor to run smoothly. What are you using to pull codes with?

sounds like it's time to take the injectors out and send them out to be cleaned.

thanks, the plugs are powdery black. i put ngk in today and a fuel injector gum out, also a filter. it is better and drivable now but still does it. when cold i need to give it gas and hold it there for about 30 sec to keep it running on its own. and sputters less as it warms up. my buddy checked the cel and it wont pull a code, he said maybe the computer. i disconnect the battery and it takes about 300 miles for the cel to come back. alot of people say the o2 is it. are these symtons of a bad o2?
