Default Tacoma swing tail gate with spare tire mount

Introducing the swinging tailgate for Tacomas!

These bad boys have a solid main frame that mounts up using the stock tailgate mounting locations. The swing out gate itself is held up by a sought 1" diameter, 1000 lb rated, bearing supported hinge, and it holds your spare tire too! And if that's not enough, it's also reversible! Have your tire slant inward to hold gear in, or for that long load, such as a dirt bike, flip the gate around slanting the tire outward, holding the bike, and your gear in the bed.

Included with the gate is the tire hold down hardware, a cable lock to keep your tire secure, latch pin with safety latch, and all mounting hardware. Recommended for up to 36 inch tires, but will hold larger. Will fit rims with as little as 2 inches of back space.

What's the wallet damage you ask?

Well not as bad as you may think. $329 ready for your tire.
Check em out on our website.

Oh that includes free shipping too!!! (within the cont. 48 states)

What's the weight on these? Any pics mounted on a truck? Might be considering one in a few months but it would of course need to be shipped.

It weighs about the same as the stock tail gate. Maybe a little heavier. I'll be posting pics of it mounted on my truck tomorrow.

That's the best part, FREE SHIPPING on these (with in the "48")! Anyway, they weigh in at 43.5-44 lbs.

Um lead time=junk, it's not optium yet, at around 4 weeks, but that WILL get shorter as we get into Dec.

Thumbs up The Finished Product!!!!

Alright Kids!
...Here's what you've all been waiting for!

Here are a few pics that I took the day I got the SpareGate from FEDEX.

Here is an overall pic:

4xInnovations sent me the Gate (2 major parts - Frame & Swing Gate), the wing nut, the tire plate, and a nice Master Lock cable lock.

Here are close-ups of Adams Excellent craftsmanship:

The Hinge:

The Latch Pin:

The Tire Mount:

The Hardware:

THE FINISHED PRODUCT!!!

The SpareGate broken down for paint:

The Frame mounted to the truck:

It uses the stock tailgate mounting points: (L & R)
(here you can also see that the frame is EXACTLY even with the top of the bed rail)

The SpareGate completely assembled and mounted:

That looks awesome Jamie! Great work Adam!

As far as that view goes, that's pretty much what Matt and I both look at (as well as Brant Luckow). It actually may give you a little more vision around the tire than our carriers.

Looks awesome guys!

Question

Ok, first looks really good.
PLEASE DO NOT....DO NOT!!! read any smack, criticism, trashing or ANYTHING negative into my query, cuz it is just that, an honest query....
I remember discussion of the tiregate and one thing that stuck out was that it mounted to the original bedside holes and that it was said that that made it weak and if I remember correctly everyone's consensus was that a bumper replacement style should be employed. Yours seemes to be almost the same as the tiregate style, except that yours appears to not be easily swapped around to run inboard or outboard.
Also it seems that with only one hinge on the one side and the latch just only latching that it seems like that is A LOT of torque on one side of the bed. Also, how tight is the latch side? Will it rattle?

AGAIN, I'm not bagging or trying to knock it at all, just genuine interest in the difference of design, so please don't anyone get offended.

I remember discussion of the tiregate and casting to higher cost aside for the tiregate, one thing that stuck out was that it mounted to the original bedside holes and that it was said that that made it weak and if I remember correctly everyone's consensus was that a bumper replacement style should be employed. The advantages with this system are that it uses ALL of the bedside bolts, instead of only the top two. This spreads the load and torque of the tire through the whole bedside. Also the tire gate is not flush, its shifted 3 inches so the tire is closer to the actual mount (front to back), reducing the torque. About the hinge/latch, the torques on the hinge itself is greater, but the torque on the entire side is no different (actually it's less because of the way the gate itself is built). The latch is quite long at almost 4.75 inches, and has very tight tolerances, so it will not rattle, aside from the security chain on the locking pin. It will also support the torque load of the tire when closed, which is not as much as everyone thinks!

I realize when designing and building this that it is not as easy to swap around, BUT it's a lot more stable, smoother swinging, and quieter than bushings.

I have a Tiregate, it uses all of the bolts as well. The 3 inch shift thing I don't see or follow what you mean. Anyway I just asked. Your price is hard to beat for sure. I would not have bought the TG if I had to pay full retail. Here's to you selling a go-gillion of these.

This thing DOES NOT RATTLE. It's very precision, and tight when closed.

If you needed to swap it around to face the other way, you'd really need to plan ahead. All it takes is 8 - 5/8" bolts and a wrench. It's not difficult, and It doesn't take very long - maybe 15 minutes to swap it around, but you'd need a buddy to hold the gate side up for you, to get 2 of the bolts started.

As for all the weight on the one hinge - that one hinge is VERY strong. It can handle more weight than you'd really ever put on it, and it doesn't sag or squeak one bit.

This thing is really nice, extremely well designed and built, and I have absolutely no reservations or concerns about it being on my truck, but then again - my truck isn't a hard core SAS rock crawler, either.

Ah, good point on dropping the tire...it looks as if there would be room, but who knows. If he can do that, maybe I'll sell the softopper for one.

Judging from the pics its probably really easy. I have a high clearance rear bumper so theres no interference there either. I had a hard topper for a while.. I hated having to crawl in to get stuff out. I think I would get a can back with surrey top only just to cover things in the back.. but its really unecessary. Ive gone the way of no topper and like it that way
