Allright I have searched. but not sure if i know what the problem is. On the freeway gong over 70... in 4th or 5th gear and let off the gas. you can here this noise coming from the transmission. if its in neutral it doesnt but if its in gear it does. Its not all that loud but you can hear it pretty well. I am not familar with manual transmissions. is this normal? or should i just take it to the dealer?

Anyone? I dont want to go down to the dealer, and not have my truck for a day, for them to tell me. "5 speeds always make that noise" or something.

I have experienced the same noise....I have an 06 reg cab 4x4. Happens at the same speeds your describing when I let off the gas...kind of a faint grinding/rattling noise? I had seen a post a while back where another reg cab 4x4 owner had a driveshaft replaced to fix the problem. I only have 2K on the clock...was planning on taking it in and getting it fixed if it's still making noises at 10K.

Here's the post:
http://www.tacomaterritory.com/forum...ad.php?t=43824 Apparently it was only reg cabs with the problem, and the new driveshaft did NOT fix it. |

Don't know if it makes much difference but I know on my 04 model I had the same issue and the cats forgot to grease one of the three zerk fittings on the CV joint. Once I greased it myslef the problem went away. The middle zerk fitting is the one they forgot to grease which casued the problems.
