OK folks, here's the scoop....It has come to our attention that hotel availability may be limited in Farmington due to a couple other events around our time frame (Connie Mack World Series, August 3-10 and Western Swim Zone, August 6-12).
However, I called several hotels today (March 13) and PLENTY of rooms are available as of now. To avoid problems I strongly recommend booking a room as soon as possible if you are planning staying in a hotel while attending this event. I spoke with eleven hotels in all and only a couple are already booked for the weekend of August 3-5. If you are planning on staying in a hotel I would recommend one on Scott St. or E. Broadway St. There are several restaraunts (Denny's, IHOP, etc.) and gas stations nearby. Check the below link to see a map of the area: http://www.google.com/maps?hl=en&saf...local&ct=image Below is another link of all the hotels listed in Farmington, New Mexico: http://farmingtonnm.org/pages/accom.html As of today, only the Courtyard Marriott and Best Western Inn have limited accomadations on August 2-5. All others have stated that they have many rooms available. At this time I have not discussed group rates with any of the hotels. I am simply trying to assure hotel availability for August 2-5. I will discuss group rates in the near future. Also, one more hotel is currently under construction and is scheduled to open May 25. It is said to have 73 rooms. So, by my count, that's more that 906 rooms within just a few square miles. Something tells me that should be enough. But, again, to ensure accomadations and prevent any headaches I suggest making your reservations as soon as possible. As far as camping goes, Brian will chime in with more details later but a majority of the camping will be quite primitive. Port-a-potties and dumpsters will be available but not much else. More to come on that shortly. Any questions, complaints, concerns? Reply here, PM or Email me.

Is the Super8 the closest to the trails, Adam? I thought that was where we stayed last year...

The one we stayed at last year was the Comfort Inn on Scott St. They're all pretty much within a two mile radius or so and about ten miles, give or take, from Choke Cherry Canyon.

I opted for the Travel Lodge as it was only $64 a night for a room with 2 beds. Some other places were showing "no availability" or had rates ranging from $85-$111 a night. If everyone stays elsewhere, I'll just pop over and visit. See everyone in August.

Is it just me or is there a severe lack of posts concerning takeover??? I thought there would be a ton of people wanting to wheel New Mexico. I cant wait to get down there, Im just sad I cant make it to the pre-run... Still in finals the whole first two weeks of May
whoever goes is going to be in for an awesome time and some great wheeling!

I did a little research on a few of the cheapest hotels and I found a couple good deals out there.
Days Inn **: (505)325-3700 Several rooms available at $50/night for a single and $56/night for a double. Amenities: Free Continental Breakfast; Free High Speed Wireless Internet; Free Local Telephone Calls; Free Airport Shuttle; Free Parking; Exercise Room; Refrigerator & Microwave in all rooms; AM/FM Alarm Clock; 24 hour Front Desk; Handicapped Rooms/Facilities; No Smoking Rooms; Sorry, No Pets Allowed; RV or Truck Parking; Television with Cable/HBO;Casino nearby; Fishing Nearby; Golf nearby;Shopping Nearby. # Number of rooms: 63 # Number of floors: 3 Travel Lodge **: (505)327-0242 Several rooms available at $47/night for a single and $64/night for a double. Amenities: The hotel offers a complimentary Continental breakfast and features an outdoor swimming pool. Free parking is available. # Number of rooms: 98 # Number of floors: 3 Motel 6 *: (505)326-4501 Several rooms available at $40.31/night for a single and $47.03/night for a double. Amenities: Parking, Modem Lines in Room, Pets Allowed, Express Checkout, Laundry/Valet Services, Pool, No Smoking Rooms/Facilities, Free Parking, Handicapped rooms/facilities, Free Local Telephone Calls, 24 Hour Front Desk, Television with Cable NOTE: Someone gave a bad review on the pool here...not very clean they said. Some people may care, some may not. Personally, after reading some reviews, looking at pictures, and comparing the amenities, I chose the Days Inn. I thought it was the best bang for the buck. They're all in the same area within a mile from each other and in the general vicinity of all the other recommended hotels. For what it's worth, I spend A LOT of time in hotels on business travel and I'd rather spend the extra $5-$10 per night for a decent nights sleep and some added comfort. The free wi-fi and fridge to keep my beer cold is nice too. That's my

hey guys, I am trying to plan out takeover and I wanted to know if anybody has camped by the trails. Me and my bro are 18 so money is a wee tight so we figure we can save some by camping but we want to make it out before college starts.

We are considering a campsite that is actually in Choke Cherry Canyon and very close to most of the trail heads. Brian will be posting up the camping info in the near future.

Since Dunk is looking for more banter, I have the following to offer:
To the camping crowd, northbound on 550, on friday the third: I will get a late start to Farmington that afternoon. I will be coming from the Rio Grande corridor (ABQ-Santa Fe-Los Alamos). Likely via NM126 up through the Jemez with a stop at the hotsprings. Friday night I will likely camp at Angel Peak Nat'l Rec area. 16 campsites at a pretty wicked "badlands" environment. Then up early saturday for the Takeover, about 25-30 miles away, if I recall correctly. Sound appealing to anyone? I think I could easily be swayed into camping in the Jemez or Chaco, if others want to. Last edited by Crazy Geologist; 04-23-2007 at 10:22 PM. |
