Default Takeover Dates need to be decided

Ok, since the office of VP has the esteem pleasure of organizing the TX Takeover I want to get this ball rolling faster. I think it is fair to say that we will be gracing Long's Ranch with our presence this year! We just need to come up with some dates. So as not to bias this voting I want you guys to post up some dates and let me know what time frame works best for you. My wife is due in July (17th) so I am basically out of anything until August (if I am lucky) but I will do everything in my power to get this event going. It will take a crew of volunteers to run the thing once you get there, but I can get a lot of the leg work done from here, and who knows, if the wife and child let me I might have the new trail rig out there for the weekend!

I also have a little one on the way, end of July - first of August. September would be good I guess. Maybe October but the Halloween run would clash with it.

June 22-24 sounds good to me. I'm up for any weekend after the first one of the month every month.

Yeah, but don't forget that we always have our Halloween run in October and having a run the month before would prob. mess it up for many members...

With Nat. TO August 3-5, I would recommend a September date. Wheeling/camping in June in TX is not a lot of fun.

This should leave a good amount of room to also accomidate the Halloween run. For those of you who are just itching to wheel, I'd maybe recommend a PreRun to Longs in June/July. So here is what we look like:

June/July: PreRun to Long's Ranch (Long's Ranch - Llano, TX)
August 3 -5: National TakeOver (Farmington, NM)
September 15-16: TX TakeOver (Longs Ranch - Llano, TX)
October 27-28: Halloween Run (BMRA - Gilmer, TX)

NOTE: All dates above (with the exception of National TO) are open to change. This is simply my recommended schedule.

these dates look pretty good. If we post the run for June then that leaves a limited time to do a post a prerun to Llano TX. Unless two ro three of you guys have already been there and have a map of it that can help map the trails for different riders.
I'm down for making a prerun in June or July.

Sept would seem like the best month . But thats also the same month as ICBM for the TLCA members, but not many around here would be going to ICBM anyways

These dates sound good to me too. I would need to schedule vacation time for the run. Will probably only be able to do the run in Sept though as I won't have a whole lot of vacation time available with the baby comin...

As for the spring comment, I agree. Maybe next year we schedule the TX Takeover in Spring...

Lookin forward to it. As soon as we nail it down for sure I plan to ask for the time off...

Here's an idea:

Since there will probably be no one from up north that will go to Long's in September (due to ICBM), what about having the June 22-24 as "the" Takeover?

Then in September, the guys from down south can go to Longs again if they want, while the folks up north go to ICBM and the Halloween run goes as scheduled with everyone together again at BMRA?

I already outlined my thoughts HERE, but I'll stick 'em in this thread for discussion also...

I would like to see three Texas-wide TTORA wheeling trips a year:
1. Spring at BMRA (last one was 2004 IIRC, then the Spring Break Beach Beer fest took over)
2. Summer in the Central Region- I think Long Ranch will be better because the Llano River offers swimming.
3. The Halloween Run always provides great weather

thats a great idea. the halloween run is always bmra correct? thats fine, halloween is always fun at bmra. i think every year we can pick a different spot for the spring and summer runs. maybe make the spring run the new tx takeover thats open to any tx location? then make the summer run available to any place that can also include oklahoma and hot springs.

id rather wheel than go to the beach, i dont drink much and im married. plus the weather ALWAYS sucks on spring break at the beach anyway.

whats ICBM? (intercontinental ballistic missile?)

I Cruised Barnwell Mountain (A TLCA open event hosted by the Lone Star Land Cruisers).

It would be really great of some of the folks from this forum participated in some of the larger, really well-known TLCA events instead of trying to reinvent the wheel.

There is alot of wheeling to be had year-round if one wants too, for example:

We all know the Lone Star Toyota Jamboree is in in January, but in March LSLC hosts the Round Up, which is almost as big as Jamboree- last March there were about 75 Toyota's that converged on Katemcy, with a fairly big-time live band to boot... it is always a blast.

Then the first weekend in June is the Razorback Ramble at Hot Springs and of course ICBM in September and TTORA's traditional Halloween run.

That's 5 all-Toyota wheeling trips right there, all you have to do is go!

It also leaves February, April, May, July, August, and November open (assuming few have time to squeeze a wheeling trip in around the Holidays).

The spring run to BMRA in April was always great weather, and like I said, Long's in June isn't gonna be bad at all- the river is there, plenty of shade (compared to Katemcy) and cool breezy nights.

Now it's up to 7 wheeling trips, more than enough opportunity for everyone to set the keyboard down and get out. Slip in a few filler trips to smoewhere local and you can easily fill the calendar and give everyone on the forum an opportunity to wheel each month with a larger, more diverse group of people & rigs.

Getting out and getting together is what will really tighten things up and build a sense of comaraderie on this forum.

Simple really...

preach it brother !!!

thats what I'm saying I'll be there with the TTR members as well as the TTORA members. Like I always say these trips are my vacations, there is nothing else I would rather be doing then wheeling and meeting new people.

I wish there were more active wheelers on this forum than just you, Harold, Anthony, Lindsay and whoever is currently rotating through the fifth spot (Mitch?).

No insult intended to anyone else at all, it's just that this forum has so much potential to make a name for itself as an active, wheeling group but for some reason always seems to fall short more often than not.

I suspect alot of it is the happy transition some of the older members have made WRT their blossoming families, career changes/increasing responsibilities and the mobility that comes with growing and seeking new opportunitites.

Regardless, we've got some of the best built rigs anywhere, yet it seems like pulling teeth sometimes to get everyone together. I've always believed that the Texas Chapter of TTORA, the home of Shannon, should be the epitome of TTORA Chapters. No one should be wheeling more, the events should be befitting of Texans, and it should be setting the standard as a model of how other Chapters operate and more importantly, of how other chapters wheel!

You guys could be the core of turning things around for the forum and it's members, so start taking the bull by the horns and get things going!

It's all laid out in front of you, all you have to do is exercise your will to make it happen...

I am planning on trying to attend more events. Heck back in the day I went to all of them, or at least most of them Miss that alot. So starting this year I am going to get my shit together, get my rig in good wheelin shape. Probably won't be able to attend too many till the fall or the begining of next year. But I will try. My job sucks as far as time off to wheel though, that is the biggest pitfall I have to deal with. I basiclly have to schedule vacation time to do any runs...

EDIT: Like Chris said, my reason for being off the trails as of late is a new family and my career. Well and the fact that my truck has been broke for a year and a half But I really want to change that and try to be as active as I used to. Will mainly depend on a. available time off and b. $$$ to go on trips as far away as Gilmer and such. Really trying to get a tow vehicle but that doesn't look like a possibility till next year at the earliest. Really workin on it though !!

Has anyone contacted Long Ranch to see what dates they have available? Depending on how they are booked, it might not matter when we want to go wheeling.

That looks like a good schedule I think the pre run would be a good idea since not a lot of members have been there, If we are going to have a big event we need to have enough trail leaders and enough time to plan an event. Chris you have a good point but I think having the take over in a 1 1/2 months will be rushing all the planning. (i.e. raffle prises. Dinner. ect.)

I hear you, I was just hoping that we could get some guys from up north together- most will be there in June, few will be there in September.

Joe has the trail leaders to work the deal, the BBQ hookup, etc., so whatever is decided it will be done right.

honestly the Takeover could be half assed together for June and still be fun. The reason I go is to wheel, yours? Maybe hold off on the prizes and just do the raffle at the halloween run instead? Unless some of you can get active NOW! I agree we don't do near enough wheeling in this great state, I think a general calander of events would be great (a culmination of TTORA, TTR, TLCA and all the others that our respective members are involved with) That way we could set dates at the first of the year and stick to them. This is your club tell us the direction you want to take it. By no means are Carlos and myself going to stop any event or hold the club back, we want it to grow as much as anyone, but due to life we cant always make every trip. I still want to do everything I can to get events organized and make sure everyone has fun. I will put up a poll in a few minutes and let yall decide the dates
