Default Texas Off Road Parks

So since the theme of the month has been to encourage wheeling, and I had the day off and the passport office is pissing me off I decided to put a complete list of places to wheel.

Maybe we can make this a sticky somewhere...if there is already a list like this then a MOD can delete this thread...i couldn't easily find one though.

Texas Offroad Parks

If somone knows a better way then doing it the way I did it be my guest...i figured i'd break the ice...

That is a great idea you have there.
Maybe we can have all of TTORA do something similar on Googlemaps.

Only because I am nice...

Courtesy of TTR (all distances are from Dallas):

-BMRA, Gilmer, TX (2hr 30 min)

-Primitive Acres, Mt. Enterprise, TX (3hr)

-Shiloh Ridge, Alto, TX (3hr)

-General Sam's, Huntsville, TX (3hr)

-Brazos Valley Off-Road Ranch, Bryan, TX (3hr 10 min)

-Clayton, OK (3hr 40 min)

-Long ranch OHVRA, Llano, TX (3hr 50 min)

-Spring Creek, Spring, TX (3hr 50min)

-Post, Aspermont, TX (4hr 30 min)

-Cline Ranch, San Antonio, TX (4hr 40 min)

-Katemcy Rocks, Mason, TX (5hr 10 min)

-Superlift ORV Park, Hot Springs, AR (5hr 10 min)

-Disney (Langley), OK (5 hr 20min)

-Trees Ranch, Kerrville, TX (5hr 30 min)

-D-Day, Wyandotte, OK (5hr 40 min)

-Y.O. Ranch, Mountain Home, TX (5hr 45min)

-Rough Canyon, Del Rio, TX (7hr)

-Satan's Playground, Juno, TX (7hr 30 min)

This list of sanctioned/legal wheeling areas excludes National Parks, National Forests and National Grasslands, with (with a couple of exceptions below) are not OHV friendly:

Big Bend National Park (Terlingua) is well known for scenic desert-style expedition trips. There is a link to a recent TLCA trip here and information on the park here

Palo Duro Canyon is more rugged and adventuresome. Palo Duro has two scheduled runs per year: Jeep Jamboree in May and Jeep Challenge in September. If you enjoy wheeling and aren't xenophobic, it is a great wheeling. Contact Ann Christian of the Figure 3 Ranch at 806-944-5562 to set up a group run. Some info here & an article here

Here's another link to a huge list of mostly out-of-the-way places, I can't vouch for it being updated or accurate though: 4x4trails.net

Post up your thoughts and help us keep this up-to-date, I'll move it to a separate folder and stick it when you are done.

I updated the list to reflect the ones Chris posted that I did not have on there...the ones in Texas anyways (the rough canyon website was down so I didn't put a placemarker in for that one quite yet)

I think anyone can modify the list so have at it guys...

Thanks for this list. Being in Arkansas, I'm close enough to actually wheel some of these awesome places.

I really liked your Google Maps idea, so I stole it and started one for the AR TTORA chapter

Arkansas Wheeling Places

Anyone have any more?

Spring creek has added a rock crawling area made up of shotcrete. The course has been used by werock and some local rock crawling competitions. there are also loose rock courses, lots of dry washes, ravines, hills and trails. There are plenty of mud holes if that's your cup of tea. Check out www.springcreekoffroad.com for park info.

Thumbs up

Were having a little shin dig on the 21st and 22 of Feb.
The Mud bogs, sand drags and rock race.
Usually about 15 to 20 thousand people show up.
On a warm year it can get as high as 45k.
It's a great big crazy week of "Hold my beer and watch this"
Lots of okies and New Mexicans.
I can't post up any more pic's than what I got. Not enough space allowed.

I have been very curios about that place. I hear you can pass thru the river there and not be braking the water ban TPWD law.

Place looks awesome to wheel in; 10 hour drive from hear tho...

THX for the update.

Actually, it's correct. The Canadian River is specifcically exempt from the "Navigable Water" prohibition.

Because the river starts outside of Texas.

Added to the list...check the location, I couldn't enter in GPS coordinates and "Go 15 minutes and turn on the dirt road" doesn't help much either.

I think i have it right though...
