Carbonfiber interior?

What do you guys think?? Im making a new dash pad and the plan was glass it and vynal it but the light gray has some glare. I Recently learned how to do carbon fiber so im thinking about doing my gauge pod in it and wrapping the rest in it for a darker non cracking dash set up. I think it would look cool....what do you think? I could do speaker pods when i do my new doorpannels and stuff...console....speaker box and amp rack.....ok maybe not that much stuff.

Check the main board or CO4x4. Someone was looking for a source for CF sheets already epoxy hardened so they could do the same thing.

Is this a new dash pad as in the foam crap that actually forms the dashboard? If so, i'd be very interested in hearing more about this! I've got a project on WAAAYYY back burner that would benift greatly from knowing how to make this stuff...

Guys - fabricating carbon fiber is pretty much the same as fiberglass cloth. Apply the resin, imbed the cloth, apply more resin. Only difference is the materials are like 100x more expensive.

I have an extra dash pad (the part that cracks all the time) the bad thing is its brown. I have a bunch of gauges i want to add but dont have a spot...i was going to fiberglass it and wrap it in vynal...

ok so heres the plan. Im going to cut the face plate for the gauges and build a framework for them in mold foam,Shape it and wrap it on the pad with a few layers of fiberglass. Im going to bondo it and sand it smooth so the CF lays flat and i can get the weave straight. finish it off and were good. I have a few write ups i will post on this and will make my own. I think it would bea nice looking touch to an old interior plus the dash wont crack and my gauges will be up there too.

You can't use regular styrene foam - the resin will eat it and it won't hold shape. You need to get the pink stuff (isocyanate I think).

Isaac - fiberglass comes as cloth or mat. Cloth is actually woven and looks like how you see carbon fiber. Mat is shorter chopped pieces kinda pressed together. Imagine the difference between plywood and OSB and you're on the right track.

Well, i'd really like to see this documented when you do it VW. It sounds awesome, and i'd like to see how its done. This could really make my wallet happy in the coming months.

ok this ones in a few weeks...heres how the mod plans look right now.

Gears and front locker
transfer case and twin stick and header while thats down
slider instal
Then the dash.

I picked up another set of dash plastics to start modding it and a new tippy gauge.I got some lexan for the screen to cover it all and the gauges and lights. I have the wireing for it all and relays and stuff are on order(friend figured out what i need cause i have no idea) so i dont over load the dimmer. I have the fiber glass and a galon of resin to get the shape i want and set it up for a smooth wrap. Im talking to 2 different places on getting a full roll of carbon fiber cloth. so about 2-3 weeks out on everything.

We did the dash in my dads plane with carbon fiber. It looked really cool with the night instrument lighting they put in and the color shifting paint. You could get the carbon fiber shifter handles too. Super bling!
