I keep four gallons of water in an Action Packer tied down in the bed of my truck all the time. I started doing this going out to the desert but now I just like knowing they are back there.

That's a good common sense mod since it's a lot safer to operate the winch from inside the cab than outside I was actually able to find a tonneu cover that works with my truck box.....granted it's a soft cover but it does keep the rain out of the bed and keeps everything safe and dry too.

whered you find that bed cover that works with the truck box? I was wondering if they made one and/or if i would be able to modify mine and make it relatively watertight. Thanks!

On my 00 Tundra...

2.5g Dromedary bags inside captain's chair backs w/drinking hoses

4D Maglite mounted in front of each chair w/QF clamps, pointing outward

Recessed D-rings (the big ones from PolyPerformance) in the bed

Belly skid

Herculiner vs carpet

Full glass + carved wells = no lift necessary for 35s

For the destination more than getting there, more than a little silly perhaps, but I can't live without my visor mounted fly-drying patch.

I am interested in your maglite set up. Forgive me for asking so much. Would you have any pics? What are QF clamps?

Thanks for any info.

Quick fist clamps, they are pretty common. If you look up a picture you will be able to see what he did in all likelihood.

Pretty cool Mod, much better than the Maglite brand clip holder.

Another place you can mount it (I have mine here) is beside your shifter in the middle. That way I can reach it from the passenger side and the driver side.

If you have the 60/40 split seats in tacomas, like my truck in sig. I just slid my 3 cell maglight in under the drivers side seat, between the top of the bottom of the seat and the transmission hump. Never has moved.

I've got a Weber portable bbq grill that I bolted down to the bed-mat. I bungee-cord the lid down so it doesnt jump up and down too much while driving. When it's cooking time, I just open the tailgate and pull the mat forward so the grill sits there on the lowered gate.

I've done everything from steaks to burgers to chicken tenderloins right there on that grill. It runs on the small portably propane cylinders, so you don't have to worry about ashes or embers drifting away.

Nothing quite like stopping on the Main Divide Road and bbq'ing up some steaks right there while the hikers and mountain-bikers are eating their gritty PowerBars and giving you the evil eye.

(Pardon the cheesy photo... it's the only pic I have handy of the grill mounted on the back.)

I didn't see breathers mentioned. i suppose they could be considered common but at least around here most people don't know about breathers.

also youd be surprised how often those super-deep floor mats come in handy. theyre a great mat for fixing broken shit on the trail.

i guess the best mod to me is having taken everything out behind the two front seats. the only thing that is back there is the rollcage and whatever i strap down for trails. i wouldnt want it any other way (except maybe bobbed).

Might look a little funny, but man is it nice out in the bush! Got tired of leaning on trees to go, so I made this....actually I made it for camping in the snow for an anual trip I do every January.

Monoman, that is the coolest, and I mean that in many ways.. I especially like the fact that if the breeze is blowing, it cools your ass and carries the smell out to everyone else to enjoy! That's awesome! I just lean against my bumper...

Thanks guys! Yea, the guys think it's funny, but they use it too.... It even has a toilet paper holder on the other side. I take it to all the camp trips when there is no shitter around & it's great. Sounds weird, but even in January when it friggin' 15 deg's out, the plastic seat doesn't really get cold either...

I take it you just place a bucket under the seat? plastic bag?

The milk crate could double as crate to pack supplies into!

No bucket or bag under it. Just set it on the ground, dig a hole, do your stuff & cover it up, it's that simple..... & yes, I do have a piece of wood that covers the bottom & I do use it for storing stuff....

The best modification to my tacoma was getting Tboned by a honda. It is simply amazing how much more a truck will do when the side is caved in and it is paid for
Best thing I did for 4wheeling, bought a rig with a back seat. I don't get enough time with my family, or enough time 4wheeling, now I can do both.
'01 4runner, will probably put the power antenna on a switch soon, seems like it never stops moving, up down, up down. Will also find a way to bypass the DRLs.
I've got the deep floormats, and they are worth their weight in gold.

Here's a mod that is good for you campers/tailgaters/festival goers. It can be done with any car or truck, but if you're like me, and like to listen to music while your hanging out, this is a great safeguard.

Solar Battery Car Trickle Chargers:

http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=219799

In my 1985 4Runner, I was able to plug this into my cigarette outlet and without keys, the radio would run, powered by the charger.
throttle body coolent bypass.

from the factory, coolent is pass through the throttle body, (heating it) to stop the throttle from getting stuck open in cold weather.

her in sunny so cal. might as well by pass it. keep the incoming air as cold as possible.

I think it's also used to cool egr / thus lowering emissions and combustion temps. I wouldn't do that mod............keep the throttle from getting stuck............Doubt it!!!

for the flashlight I used a surefire, it was issued, and put it in the middle. the holder is off of a bike, it held a little tire pump...or a surefire lol
[IMG][/IMG]

and another one thats not on here and its not that big but I think its helpful...
I went to a junk yard and grabbed the plastic clip that holds most hood prop rods down and drilled a hold smaller that the clip and pushed it in. pen holder!
works great for most pens and it up and out of the way untill you need it.

Awesome idea on the pen holder. It would really come in handy when trying to find a pen to sign the speeding tickets when the Troopers can't find theirs...lol. Seriously, it's little things like that that seem to make life easier from day to day.

I hike a lot, so I have this camelbak unbottle. its basically just a 3L bladder with insulation around it and a strap on top. I snap the strap around the headrest poles and hang it behind the seat...makes it easy to drink cool water while negotiating rocks and bumpy trails with no spilling! I also love my power inverter to charge laptop, ipod, 2-ways, etc. I also use my off-road light cover as a cereal bowl!
I guess none of these are really mods...but hey, they help on the trail!

Now that's genius! That's the weird stuff I wanna hear, because honestly, how many has thought of that??

As far as the water bottle thing, some friends of mine took their V8 FJ40's to Moab during the summer, and they taped those water bottle mist-er things you can get at WalMart (I think they are made to keep you cool outdoors, just fill with water and pump them up) to their hoods and had them spraying on their radiatiors to keep the motors cool during the heat of the day.....
