Default Tacoma bumper build

So its the first real build i've ever done. i messed around in metal shop when i was in highschool so i have a little background in welding and whatnot. Tomorrow i'm mounting 4 hella 500's, 2 fog 2 driving and mounting the skid plate. Here's the photos so far. Lets get some constructive criticism going on. I know the bends could have been better, but i used the harbor freight kinker. But cmon i scored it new for 70 bucks.

My buddy Andrew's first time working with metal and welding.

Other than the fishmouths on the two uprights welded to the front edge of the frame rails (They're opposite eachother on the angle) and the aforementioned kinky bends, looks good for a first time build. The first time you do tube work, it's a bitch.

Looks pretty good. Did you use prefab elbows for the bends?? You can taper the cuts and get them to fit a bit better if that is what you did. But that's for next time!!! Very clean work, paint is really good!!

probably should have taken a grinder to those end caps before painting it. But all in all the bumper looks real good.

It looks like its not level in the photos. I deffinately took a level to the whole thing so it sits nice, the end caps were ground down after the photo was taken. I just ran out of grinding wheels and my pops said he would pick me some up. I figured i should be doing something while he was gone so i painted.

Great job for your fist time fabbing!! Keep in mind that if you are going to use a protractor when fabbing, put the truck on 4 jack stands and shim them till the truck is dead nuts level, front to rear and side to side. Then any work you do to the bumper will always be from a level starting point. It's worth the extra work and it takes all of the guess work out of the project. I would use a protractor, it will get you right on the money every time. BTW, how many times have you caught that carpet on fire?

I am way behind the times with this post...but the Indian Style chop saw posture is outstanding. I think It should be incorporated into welding positions. 1) The overhead indian seated butt weld.

Good job just taking the plunge to do a first time project. A little tip for you, build a small table/work bench and get off the floor. Welding either sitting down at a table or standing at a bench is so much easier. Rotate your work so the majority of the welding is done in the flat position. Kepp up the work, you will get better with every project. So much more satisfaction than just breaking out the Visa and buying stuff.

i think its decent for a first try, after a while though you'll get sick of it and start noticing little things that bother you.you'll cut it off start over and the next 1 will be much much better. ask me how i know...

Dude, for a first build and minimal fab experience it looks awesome. If it's strong and you like it...who cares what others think.
