Extended Diff Breathers

From Faq

Parts needed for this modification:

  • Fram #G12 fuel filters
  • Nissan differential fitting #38323-C6010
  • 16 feet 1/4" I.D. fuel line
  • Zip ties
  • 4 stainless steel hose clamps
  • One roll of Teflon pipe tape

Total cost for parts in my area (Tennessee) was $30.96.

Installation steps:

  1. Put some Teflon tape around the Nissan fitting and replace the rear diff breather with this fitting.
  2. Attach some fuel line, approximately 13 feet depending on where you run it, using the stainless steel hose clamp. The stainless steel will resist corrosion much better and only costs a few pennies more. I ran my line from the rear diff over the gas tank and along side the fuel lines near the driver's side of the frame to the engine compartment just behind the battery. I zip tied it about every 18" along the way.
  3. I then attached the fuel filter to the other end with a hose clamp. If you put some rubbing alcohol on the inside of the hose and the nipple of the fuel filter it will be much easier to mount it up.

Note: The front diff on Tacomas already has an extended diff breather, but I went ahead and replaced the whole thing with the same setup. You won't need a Nissan fitting for the front as there is a fitting already there.

Total project took about 1.5 hours.
