Need some help.

I want to change the gears in my 2004 Pre-runner, 2WD 4-Spd ECT, and a 3.4 V-6. It presently has the 8" Ring Gear, 4:10, Open 2 Pinion. I have a set of 17" tires from a Tundra on it now. Would there be any problems running a 3:42 set of gears, with everything else remaining the same. I was hoping this would provide better gas mileage, than I am presently getting. Has anyone tried this yet. Any feedback would be great. Thanks, Hank
