"He is OK but co-driver severely damaged and may have broke both ankles."

Ouch, glad it wasn't any worse than that though.

Dang! That's crazy. What are the rules on passing? I assume you can do it where ever but it just seems odd that he didn't follow the rest of the group. But probably just driver error.

According to Tread Lightly, Johnson Valley is a designated open travel area, meaning travel is not limited to designated trails so I guess whatever you think your truck can handle, go for it. Also, the dust was blinding the crap out of people.

I couldn't help but laugh at the spare going flying though...guy in the other rig was probably like "Woah...what was that?" as it flew by the windshield.

Scary vid though. Hope they recover well.

Having just recovered from a broken ankle suffered while wheeling, I can tell you that yes, it very much does hurt, ALOT.

In fact, it isn't the initial break that gets to you, because your adrenaline is pumping hard and it masks it. But I bet the next day that guy was hating life every time the pain killers started to wear off.

Even with pain meds, the pain goes from quite bad to a dull ache, but dull aches get to you as well.

Yes, I've broken a lot of bones. Latest one being New Years.

How did you brake an ankle while wheeling? I had no idea that happened on trail

It looks like there had been some vehicles that took that line and made it. Fooled the TG crew into thinking it was safe.

If he never turned to the right he would've been a Hero. I am glad it didn't turn out worse for them and I hope they recover quickly.

Trying to get to a spotting position while on a steep slope. Slipped, leg twisted under me as my weight came down on top of it, and snapped my fibia. Hop-crawled back to my truck, and had someone drive me out. Took about 5 hours to get to the ER.

I know this feeling! I've been a part of several pretty nasty dirtbike accidents while out camping, where we're anywhere from 1 to 5 hours to the closest hospital. Most recent one was in Flaming Gorge Utah, closest emergency room was in Vernal. Nearly 3 hours away in a full size dodge.

Glad to hear you're getting better though! Hopefully we'll see you on the trail this summer!

Actually, the driver was having a hard time seeing through all the dust and didn't notice the 10' drop. He didn't take that route on purpose.
