Moving to CO - Eagle or GJ Western Slope

Just looking for some local info. Just interviewed for a job in the Eagle area and was looking for info on housing between Eagle and around Grand Junction.

If there are any good website to look at Rent or Mortgage cost that would be ideal.

Thanks All

Michael

Oh we gotta get you to talk to "Jade" (That's his name too) Our resident Cottora guy who has lived in that area for 11 years. A Kick butt guy too - who will surely help out!

So what's the story? What kind of Job?? Oh and I edited your title so Jade and other western slope folks will see it better!

I can help answer questions about the Glenwood Springs area, I have an aunt and Uncle who lived in Eagle for 15 years, and I have good friends who own a home in GJ.

Check out the Vail Daily and Glenwood Post Independent websites.

Was just reading an article in 5280 about the "Down Valley Effect" and how the cost of living increases as even the rich can't afford places like Aspen anymore.

They said the average single family home in Aspen costs $6.2M

Yes, the down-valley effect reaches all the way to Silt, New Castle, Rifle, etc and the same thing is happening outside West Vail to Eagle, Edwards, etc. Many "single family homes" that far out start at $250,000. A lame starter condo in Carbondale goes for $200,000 now... just silly.

I never like the stats people throw out about "Aspen." They are often looking at homes that are not technically within the city limits and include the WalMart sized ridiculousness that is in Pitkin County, but immediately outside the city. Just a few years ago the median value of a home in the City of Aspen was $3.2 million, which isn't really that unreasonable...

All that said, there are areas that could work...

Carbondale recently got picked in one of those "best places to live/best cities positioned for the future" type articles. Its a great little town, but yea, the Aspen area downflow is getting worse and worse.

Hagan - all those places that dot I-70 between GJ and Vail are pretty small towns, and the closer you are to Vail or Aspen, the pricier they become. Eagle and Edwards seem fairly popular and populated, although I don't know much about the cost. GJ is a decent sized city that is relatively affordable, but its pretty much in the high desert, so you gotta be ready for really hot summers, dirt/dust, and lots of sunshine. Easy access to Moab though

The area between Glenwood and Rifle has always intrigued me, and there's some cool little towns in between. Are you looking for something rural/small, ski-townish/touristy medium, or something bigger - knowing that GJ is really the only town that qualifies?

If you come out - bring Hoss (Jamie) with you. He's a cool guy for sure!

size of the town doesnt really matter to much to me. Not a Skier, yet, so thats not a must have on my list.

has far as Hoss I can try to bring him but his wife may not care for it to much, but then again......

also what are the gun laws like out there?

Snow is already dusting the high country, but it might warm up again before fall is over. Typically snow starts to accumulate above 10,000ft at the beginning of October and progresses to the lower elevations over the next few months. In the Glenwood Springs area early accumulations are likely in the end of November, but the primary roads clear quickly. Of course, if it's another year like the last, could be wetter sooner and later!

Check this snow depth site for some data:

Sorry, I've been distracted....

Have you talked to anyone within The NG about housing? I'd think that would be your best bet, you'd be more likely to get a better deal or assistance.
