Eagle Rock & Saran Wrap July 2-3, 2010

OK, well here are some stills Melanie and I shot up there at camp and on the trail. These are all raw from the camera, unedited, just bulk shrunk in size and quality for the internet using PS...

The gallery is here:

And some samples...

Doug regaling us with tall tales back at camp...

Mel's a good listener

Some awesome columbines

These ones are called shooting stars

And on to the wheelin'

A bit of strap work and some winching was required when a runner fried its clutch...

We should have a contest to see who can come up with the funniest caption. Winner is the new COTTORA Pres. Hahaha, J/K.

Might as well put up a few more...

See you on down the trail everyone!

Videos to follow eventually. Stay tuned.

Thanks. Mel took about 50 percent of the stills and 90 percent of the vids. I am feeling lazy so not editing pics and not uploading every shot this time. Just the highlights. I figure the vids will tell the story of each trail better anyway. Fun watching vids of this run the last hour or so. Need to work on shrinking them and putting the clips together as usual. Maybe tomorrow.

Thanks for the great pics; when are we going to wheel again? I'll wash the truck beforehand to help "pretty-up" the pics.

You got that pic of me waving from across that big valley... what lens do you have; Hubble?

I'm jealous... saving for a DSLR immediately!

Hey Dan, No its just a 180mm f3.5 macro. Sort of a mid-range, just happened that Mel had the macro lens on her camera body from shooting flower pics in the field just before. The zoom I was using is a 24-120mm f4-5.6, and the lens we used for video is an 18-70 which is broken and stuck at 18mm. Usually our videos zoom in/out to keep the rigs bigger in the frame from a distance, but Mel's zoom got beat up in the field this work season and now its stuck. Needs to be repaired. So sometimes she tried to move the camera closer and follow the trucks by walking while recording, and it came out a little shaky. Oh, the DSLR cams we had with us that day are the Nikon D90 and D200. We also shoot a few other camera bodies, but not this trip.

Sorry, Ike. I guess Mel didn't capture any of me for that section. But here's another one I just finished.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFoflZJ0Ayg

There's a bit of my truck in there, getting hung up on the rear diff through that loose rocky dusty section. But how about "hammerdown Joe" getting some through there, huh? That was impressive, man. I mean the tires were just not hooking up at all, but he didn't give up. I hope he shows up for more runs. That guy is not afraid to get some. Sucks none of us thought to suggest he lose another 5lbs of air pressure in the tires for that rocky section though. Fun stuff. I had a blast on that run.

Sucks, but we have no footage of us 3-wheelin' on Saran Wrap when there was room enough for Mel to stand under my back tire. Gotta hold it for pics next time. Kickass wheeling, everyone. That was some fun shit! I have more footage to post. Working on #3 now.

There's a little closer footage of you on vid #3, coming up. Sorry, but we typically only get footage of the 2 or 3 trucks closest to ours. Melanie just can't run up in time to catch the leaders if we are very far behind, and they usually finish the obstacles before either of us see it at all. We should probably stay as close to the front as we can for that reason.

Here's the last one now...

That's all the raw footage from that day. Nothing was left on the cutting room floor so-to-speak. Sorry if something you wanted to see got missed. It happens every run, and usually to me. Hahaha. Thanks again for coming out everyone. Good times.

no shit... my truck just couldn't finesse that loose dirt on the hill. The vids make it look mostly flat, but it was kind of steep and it seemed that even the smallest rock stopped me

EDIT: It was good to meet Joe out there. You certainly pounded that truck all day long.

Hey Marlon, yeah it is pretty sweet. Put Colorado on your list of wheeling destinations. There are some incredibly scenic runs up there. We'll be going up every year.
