Rock Lights?

What is everyone using for rock lights? I was thinking of the vision-x tantrums. I'm sure I read that a few on here are running them? How do you like them?

Im running em and nate has some. they are awesome. super easy to install. draw no power, and are almost too bright. the control box is big, ugly, but works. i just use the wireless remote to control em and have the box hidden from view. great investment if you ever wheel at night.

Wanting to get into night wheeling this summer so I will probably get these.
Gonna have to get the multi-colored ones for extra HP.

I should have gone that direction with the Vision-X Tantrums. I bought 3 sets of cheap fog lights from Wal-Mart and have them wired to a aux fuse block. I still don't have it completed but by the time you buy the lights, wire, and all the other stuff you need you're at the price of the Vision-X lights. Plus my lights are all 55w so the draw is big compared to the LED's. I will have to upgrade the 22RE alt. I have the GM to Toyota Alternator Bracket from ToolBox Guy on Pirate.

I used the old 'fog lights' that came on the truck; they seem to work fine but I'd go for LEDs if you've got a stock charging system. Between those, the front light, radio and CB, my stock alternator isn't too happy.

LEDs are now on "The List".

the kit comes with a wireless remote. I have my control box mounted up out of sight but still accessible behind some things in my dash and primarily use the remote to control them. simple

Really? A remote control for your rock lights? Is that necessary?

Fuse holder, fuse, a switch, a roll of 18g wire, some cheap LEDs, a few crimp connectors, a roll of electrical tape. Done. And if you're like me and already have this crap laying around for some odd reason... free? I am a cheap motherf$&*er though.

far from necessary. but when the alternatives are an ugly box or wasting time breaking something that aint broke so I can fix it and wire in my own switch, fuck it, ill leave it alone.

Your solution does not involve 15 different disco strobe effects to choose from .

Neither do these, but I think this is what I'm gonna end up going with

A cheaper option is 5 meters (15 ft) of superbright LED flex strip for < $30 on ebay here - I bought one of these reels of flex LEDs and, yes, they are probably bright enough (depending on how bright you want/need - I would prefer enough to see by but not completely lose my night vision)

Hmmm... I recall someone wanting a guinea pig late model truck to build a plug and play electrical accessories box and the first thing to be added was LED rock lights. Then his ADD kicked in and now he has just spare parts lying around.

Ha! I like how they're named "roundeyes" but there's a rising sun in the store logo. Zing!

BTW they look great and I can see myself spending $ for a few in the future. Waterproof? Yes, please!

These are getting some good results over on pirate:

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/waterpr...p-dc-12v-91953

Apparently this is only five of them:

Less than 2W per LED, waterproof, and it comes with 20 individual lights for $26. They also come in green and red. Supposedly they are way brighter than the VisionX Tantrums. I've got 20 of each color on the way!

I'm running OffroadOnly.com's led pods. 3x1w led's per pod, molded in some sort of resin along with a good strong magnet. I've been really happy, and pretty surprised that the magnets actually hold those things on really good! I've only lost one, and that's because I failed to move it from the bottom of my front x-member before running carnage. Having magnets in the pod is very handy. I'll be running one up in my engine bay, simply stick it to the hood, move it around depending on where I need light. Same with the ones around the frame.

the down side is these things were really expensive, I probably wouldn't buy them again.

I got the amber, so it's tough to tell how it compares to the bright white tantrum's. I just don't like the super bright white at night. Tends to ruin night vision.

Those ones from dealextreme look really bright. I'd love to see them in amber and with a magnet.

I have six of the LED strips from TG. Still Need to install them...mine might be more ricer since I got them in blue. To match the truck since I don't see myself night wheeling much. I had store credit that I needed to use haha but I'm excited to eventually see how they look.

Did the same thing and the same color and I still need to install them.

I picked blue because I think it will have less of an impact on my night vision, so the jury is out on that when and if I wheel at night.

blue, other than white, is the worst color for your night vision. Night vision is dependent on the rods in your eyes adapting to lower light conditions and dominating light reception from the cones. Cones are receptive to color where rods are receptive to intensity (white and black). By stimulating your eye with high frequency colored light it will attenuate the rods abilities to distinguish patterns of low intensity (dark).

I am probably just going to go with the tantrums. Not the brightest but easy and the price is right. On the trail from my experience rocklights are more for th3e spotter/once you are stuck so I wouldn't worry as much about their effect on night vision personally.

What would you suggest for a better color?
