Reversing 5VZFE Thermostat Orientation
Bought my '03 3.4 Taco in October and noticed my temps are quite a bit higher than on my '01 3RZFE. It's nothing absurd.. but it's mostly at 197 to 202 and that seems about 10 -12 degrees higher than normal for a Toyota.
I see peeps saying that the thermostat orientation of the jiggle valve being at 12 o'clock instead of 6 causes this.
Timing belt an thermostat were changed by the previous owner in 2014 so I'm guessing they put it at 12 oclock instead of 6.
If I want to pop the thermostat out and switch it to 6 o'clock, do I need to drain the entire cooling system or remove anything else... or can I just remove my skidplate, take out the 3 bolts and cover (losing a bit of coolant along the way) and spin the thermostat around then bolt it back up?
Will the gasket need to be replaced or should that be ok to reuse? I'm not sure if it's rubber or some papery material.
