This home brew comes fairly cheap...
tho'... U'd have to pony up, another $ 24. to own this particular cooler

unless U don't want to :dunno: :flipoff4:

if U give a shit... they're on sale at Kmart ;)
^ $34. at Target tho' $ 10. mo'

recently purchased 2 Igloo 40qt "Max Cold" ice coolers (rollers)...
and... in closer study, found that the 40qt rollers already have established provisions (perches) for the mounting of a raised dry box/tray...
tho' the igloo website showed no optional trays for this sized cooler  :dunno:

so fark it... I made up my own using a small plastic box mfg'd by Sterlite... purchased at Target for $ 2.99 ea.

The new dry box sets on the perch at exactly the perfect height.
when the cooler's lid is pivoted down (closed)...
it's lowest interior surface rests flush on the top surface of the dry box lid, thus sandwiching that there at the perch...
and amazingly.... the cooler's lid closes completely and without restriction :xpimp:

The next picture shows the container/lid ends, after being trimmed/cut to fit.
was about a 1/4" material removed off each end.
That and there was a latch type tab lock at each end..
and those were removed and discarded as well.

I needed two ;)

I actually haven't had opportunity to use them...

tho', at a cost of $ 24.(ea)
even if the ice only lasts, 4 days...
I'm betting, that I'll still be their owner

I'll probably like 'em even better,
when I figure out how, (and what?)
...drain spigot/valve will work on these coolers. :)
can't be harder then drilling a hole :D

wet ice, is colder, especially for the drinks...
but tends to melt ice faster and grinds the cooler's contents to shit. well, when on the move (trail/rd) anyways

so... I intend to run drain lines plumbed (thread or qdc) from the coolers, down/out thru' the tub's floor drain... gravity

and I'll probably choose block ice... if trying to make do for a 5 day ;)

As said for drinks, water and ice is colder but a pain. For stuff I don't want floating in water I freeze my water bottles. As they thaw I drink the cold water.
