Arrow Built & Restored 1985 4Runner

Well, everybody I know has been buying old 1st gen 4Runners lately so I decided to jump on the band wagon. I'm going tomorrow to pick this one up in Dallas and drag it back here to Houston.

Figure I will throw a little money into this thing to make it a nice trail worthy rig.

Bone stock '85 4Runner 22RE automatic.

Parts are coming in,

Time to pick up the pace on this project

Getting the axle mounts cut off and mounting the axles.

With the cutting torch tip clogged up, and the welder out of wire, it was time to go home.

Got more done on it this weekend than I expected. Atleast it's starting to come together.

Hydraulic pump for the retractable driver side slider.

Well, this is what happens when you know nothing about fluid dynamics such as in my case. The power steering pump on the truck doesn't have a large enough reservoir to push the fluid to run the rams on the retractable slider. Thanks to the good people over at Surplus Supply Center, they got me setup with the electric hydro pump you see above. This will be mounted in a cradle behind the drivers seat.

The valve I had to control the slider is now being replaced by this push button control box...

More clearance, passenger side

Driver side buttoned up

Driver seat slides all the way back now

Shifters mounted

As you can see from the photo above, the lever for the gate shifter almost touches where the radio goes. What I'm thinking is to make a "wedge" to place under the shifter to pitch the entire console upward at the lever end. This will give more clearance between the lever and the radio ultimately.

Project: TOYMINATOR

Cleaning my garage yesterday I came across these...

A set of BCS F1 "gyromation" beverage holders. I had won these as a raffle prize several years ago. At the time, I still had my Tacoma and it had perfectly working factory cup holders in it. So I threw these things in a box and figured I could maybe use them one day. Well that day was today.

I figured I'd mount them to my cage, but the mounting bracket they came with was kind of a dog legged shaped, flat bracket. Not really something that would mount directly to tubing. Then I remembered I had a set of these...

About a month ago I had ordered a mount for my CB and for my Maglite from FOURTREKS. Backordered parts delayed my order so they threw in a set of their basic clamps (pictured above) for my troubles.

The good thing about their clamps is that they have a flat spot on one side, which made a perfect spot to mount the bracket that came with these beverage holders...that is, after a little cutting and trimming to make just a simple tab out of it...

Now the driver and passenger have their own blingin beverage holder...

The FOURTREKS clamps worked great and look really clean. But I do have to admit had it not been for the fact that I got all this stuff free of charge that I would have never spent that much money on a couple of beverage holders. Just a price break down, you can figure $50 bucks for a pair of the BCS F1's and $55 bucks for the FOURTREKS clamps. But I figured since I wasn't out no money on this that it was some pretty cool bling!

Well, since I did not have an overhead cabin light, not to mention that it would be covered up by the cage if I had one anyways, I decided to rig up something of my own.

I went down to the local big rig chrome shop and picked up a 12" LED strip light to recess into the roll cage padding. I basically cut the padding to fit perfectly around the LED strip...

I installed a rocker switch in the padding as well which was tied back into the factory overhead cabin light wiring to control the LED's...

Worked just like I wanted it to! Throws off plenty of light at night, as you can see, and since it's recessed into the padding there is nothing hanging down to possibly hit your head on, which is what I wanted!

Heading off to the shop for paint and bodywork next week!
